keeping your boots from freezing at night in winter camping

What do you guys do about this? Seems like some people just let them freeze and thaw them with their feet in the morning. Others put them inside their sleeping bag. Seems a little bulky. I have bad memories of my gloves freezing last winter and not being able to even get them on the following morning.

You could always throw a few foot warmer pads in your boots when you go to bed so they will stay fairly warm all night.

Change your socks then put your boots back on and sleep with them on. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

If they are clean I'll throw them in the sleeping bag with me. If not then I might wear an extra pair of socks for a little while if it's really cold. If it's not too cold then I just suck it up and put them on cold. They warm up fairly quick if you are up moving around.

Lately I've been just leaving them outside the tent and dealing with it in the morning, but if you really want to avoid that (and they're too dirty to put inside your bag), you can just put them under the feet of your sleeping bag and it'll keep them reasonably warm.
if it's a really cold night, boil water and put it in your nalgene before you go to bed. throw that in between the shoes and it'll warm em up pretty good.
that's a good trick to throw one in your sleeping bag while you break down camp for the night so that your bag is warm before you hop in it too

I wear military mukluks. They have wool inserts. I just wear the inserts to bed so my feet stay warm. Then in the morning, I just slip the shells back on. Yeah it's a little chilly at first, but not for long.

Hmmmm, interesting. Does that boot nalgene thing actually work? I would have thought that the nalgene would have gone below freezing well before you wake up.

I'm looking for something that I can hike in the snow in. Those don't seem adequate.

if you wrap it all up in a puffy, it works surprisingly well.
it won't be hot when you wake up, but most of the time it shouldn't be frozen either unless you're in really gnarly cold.

Been hiking in them every winter since 1985. Even had to recently replace them because I wore the heels out. I guess what works for me, might not work for everyone.
I guess you could throw them in a plastic bag, and put them in the bottom of your sleeping bag. I do that with my canteen so that at least I will have some water in the morning.
