Fruiting Chamber Heater Tek Idea. Thoughts? Comments?
    #22501510 - 11/09/15 05:20 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Okay so I have a basic diagram of the Idea of what I want to do or try here. Wanted to know if anyone else has ever tried this before or if anyone has any comments on how to Improve upon the idea, or just tell me ahead of time that its a waste of time. First post on here btw, so go easy on me if this has been covered. I hope this picture is large enough when I post this...

So basically the idea would be to have a separate water tank outside of the main Fruiting Chamber (the water itself would be completely isolated or at least not in direct contact with anything in the main chamber.) with a small aquarium heater and a water pump.

The Heater would warm the water to the desired temperature (the ones I found at Walmart for 1 gallon tanks were non-adjustable and held temp at 78F +/-2), then the pump would be activated to pump the water through tubing running through the Fruiting Chamber. I was thinking in a small upward spiral around the inside edge of the box, or a criss cross of tubing going underneath the Perlite layer. The water would flow through the tubes and heat the Fruiting Chamber, and exit back into the top of the water reservoir to be recycled back through the system.

I was thinking of Insulating the inside of my chamber with some kind of Foam or something, and lining the inside with a Plastic Sheet or Thick Garbage Bag or something of the sort. I would use stainless piping for better heat transfer. I also want to put a valve on the side of the water tank for easy water changes. But I don't want to get to in depth on this at the moment.

I hope you all get the gist of what I'm explaining here. It's essentially a bigger version of the Heatbomb tek. A little bit anyway. That tek gave me the idea for this anyway. I was hoping that it would help regulate the tank Temperature and maybe help with RH inside the chamber. Obviously spraying and fanning the FC would still be needed. Maybe I'm over thinking things. This will be my first grow so maybe I should start simple. Ha

Thoughts? Comments? Advice? All Appreciated.

Temps aren't important enough to go through all that. Room temps are fine. Don't go trying to reinvent the wheel until you have a few grows under your belt.

That's what I figured, but would it help even remotely with RH? Or would a heating pad under the chamber do the same thing? My brain tends to over complicate things. . .

I've actually grown once before, but I used a kit and shit didn't go very well. The Cakes didn't want to colonize, and only 4 of the starting 12 made it through colonization contam free. Only got 4 little mushrooms before contams hit the rest of the Cakes. FC was humid but always felt cold to the touch, so I figured that's where I goofed.

But I've been scouring the forums for the past month, so hopefully I've retained enough knowledge to get my first Successful grow down. Skipping the BRF cakes, and trying to start some WBS jars, then spawn to Coir using Damons (Damions?) Coir tek.

I'm pretty sure a tub of warm water is going to breed mold like crazy.

Heatbomb tek is very old and I don't think anyone really uses that any more.

Kits are generally a bad experience for most people from what I've seen posted here.

Might be worth building a standard SGFC and doing proper PF TEK.

If you feel like stepping up and have the cash for a pressure cooker then WBS and Damion5050's coir tek are a good combo for monotubs.

Yeah I was actually really close to buying another Kit (for like 300$), then I found a post on here where I guy got torn a new one for talking about him and his friends new Grow kit and etc... Needless to say it scared me enough to get me to go buy my own supplies like a Big Boy and try from scratch. Haha

Instead of the 300$ kit I got myself a PC, 24 Jars, 2 SGFCs, and all the WBS I can handle. And all that was WAY cheaper all together. 120 bucks all together. Well not including spores or the Drill/Bits, but whatever.

You dont want a sgfc if you are using WBS and CVG, you want to make monotubs.

Which still has nothing to do with air pumps and heaters and all that jazz - forget about that idea.

if you have a pc you dont need a sgfc, def dont need 2, rather make monotubs if you havent started drilling yet!

"You dont want a sgfc if you are using WBS and CVG, you want to make monotubs"

Whats the difference? I thought I needed a SGFC for the FAE and RH. My plan was to spawn the WBS to some aluminum baking pans or Tupperware, recolonize, and fruit them from there inside the SGFC... That way they dont come in contact with the Perlite layer.

I guess I have some more Homework to do searching the Forums. Good thing I haven't drilled my holes yet. Ha

And what does me having a pressure cooker have to do with the SGFC? The more I learn the more confusing this all seems. Lol

Sorry this is going Way off topic. I'll go back to Scouring the Forums. Just thought I'd pick your brains for a little now that I have an account. d:

sgfc's are for pf-cakes or trays, monotubs are for jars of grain spawned mixed with bulk sub.

How frank gets his shit done
and franks 12 steps to mushrooms is a great read on everything related to monotubs!

pf-tek cakes dont need a PC, grains do, so when you have a PC, do grains,
and when you do grains, spawn them in a monotub.
hope that makes sense

Dammit... I planned on using the SGFC for the Humidity and FAE because my work schedule tends to be quite unpredictable. Figured it would help with the FAE if I wasn't home to do it on a regular schedule.

Monotubs maintain the humidity and FAE levels themselves, all you gotta do is adjust the polyfill as needed. But overall, they are pretty much set and forget.

Really either one should be relatively low maintenance, at least for a day or so at a time. With either one just check before you leave for work and make sure they don't look dry, takes a few seconds with a spray bottle if they aren't.

Just read up on Franks Tek for Monotubs. That seems like the way to go. Thanks to all for the input, and I apologize about how far this thread drifted from the original topic.
