Bummer this is hard. I've searched far and wide since the beginning of October. Thanks for the I.d.

It's not too hard, and it's quite possible you're just looking in the wrong place. Keep it up and be sure you're within their range and you'll find them.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Thanks man, I'll keep trying. I've talked to a lot of people and I look in the places they have been successful. I think it might be because it was such a long hot summer and we didn't get rain until just recently.

Nah.. I think it's just that other people got there before you... if you hunt where they hunt chances are they clean up before you and then there's hundreds of other hunters..

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be a particularly great azurescens season, or at least not yet, but they're definitely out and fruiting. If you know they're being found in an area already this year just keep persistent.

Do you know what those liberty cap looking ones are? The have a hollow stem that is some times transparent. They average the size of a thumb tip but some are bigger and a lot are smaller. I see them everywhere on the coast, wooded areas, grass areas some time on tree.

Neither of those above look like Psilocybe semilanceata.

Oh no I'm sorry I should have specified, I didn't pick and or take photos, the cap start out bell shaped almost transparent and then spread out sometime getting almost flat tthey start darkening up. The stem is transparent and eventually darkens up a little. The tip of the cap is darker than the brim.

That could describe a lot of things. Mycena, Bolbitius, et al.
Mycena seems likely as there are a heck of a lot of species and many of them look nearly indistinguishable. Try to get an example and we can see.
