Can you tell me if this is active or not?

South Texas found in the grass not from a "bouquet" if you will.

The stem wasn't much longer than this and they smell magic

I do not see any blue bruising, or evidence of purple/black spores, and though I am inexperienced myself, I would hazard that this is not active. A spore print will tell you more, although it may be faint given the obvious age of the specimen. I would wait for a trusted identifier to give you an opinion, though.

As far as I know, no active species (in the area I am familiar with) have a brown spore print. Although, brown spores can indicate hypholoma, galerina, or cortinarius, most of which if not all are poisonous. I would certainly like to know exactly what they are, though, so I will probably lurk until a TI turns up.
