If it was a terriorist he must have thought he could out draw an apache.
If it was a scared and confused farmer with some wrenches in a tube he might have gone back to dump out the wrenches to show the pilots what was inside. Either way it seems like they were going to get killed anyway.

Yeah I remember in the first gulf war the rest of the allied army was more scared of being shot by the americans than the Iraqis. The friendly fire deaths over there were gross incompetency.
