My secret to well being 14
#22494545 - 11/08/15 07:38 AM (8 years, 2 months ago) |

I have arrived at a place where I have never been happier with my life or myself.
Life has just gotten so much happier, healthier, richer, more rewarding.
I feel so much more calm, content and peaceful and so much more established and secure and confident.
I am 28 and I have made a lot of mistakes, bad choices and hard learning for myself.
I have gone through a lot of hard times. I have had bad addictions (alcohol, blow, etizolam) , I have had chronic and sometimes suicidal depression, brutal anxiety And incapacitating panic attacks, psychotic breaks.
But all of that is fully behind me. I feel clear, lucid, I feel balanced, well. And I know I am improving daily.
I have learned a few things that are more valuable to me then any other knowledge.
Basically I can narrow the secret to a good life down to a few simple points (for me personally)
Just in case anyone else finds it helpful these are my key secrets to well being
1. Be careful what addictions you allow to develop.
I have dabbled in numerous drugs and many or them were nothin but had news, damage and harm.
I finally found a drug system that enriches my life enormously without harsh consequences.
I use almost exclusively the following drugs :
Cannabis, coffee and Kratom . Or as I call it flower, leaf and bean.
These are the pillars of my life. My depression and anxiety are literally a thing of the past and I am happy and content the vast majority of the time and my health is excellent.
I am extremely strict about not using other drugs except psychedelics like dmt, mushrooms or ayahuasca:
In particular it's so important not to use benzos, cocaine, tobacco, and any toxic drug like synthnoids, as well as opiates.
This is based on my own life experience. And now that I have all other drugs out of my life I feel incredible and my life has been transformed for the better. I am also extremely moderate about drinking reserving it only for special and social occasions and never drinking anything but red wine or fine beer and never allowing myself to become hung over.
2. Exercise: daily intense exercise , cycling between various kinda of work outs, especially yoga, martial arts and weights .
Exercise is the core of life. Every day, 1-3 hours of vigorous exercise. And emphasizing yoga and martial arts.
3. Meditation , every day , 1-3 hours, cycling between silent breathing meditations and mantra chanting meditations.
4. Diet: emphasizing vegetables, fruits and game meats such as elk, venison, moose, freshwater fish etc and strictly avoiding highly processed foods, refined sugars, preservatives and trans fats.
5. Sleep: as Much as possible, early to bed and early to rise, regular and consistent sleep Schedule, and always writing down all dreams first thing upon waking up.
That's it. Five steps that after a lifetime of experience had allowed me to finally arrive at a place Of genuine well being. I feel good, happy, healthy, content, confident, vigorous, vital and strong.
A life based on Safe natural plant medicines , athleticism and exercise, yoga and meditation and connection to the inner life and spirituality.
This, combined with prioritizing love, relationships and strong healhy social bonds, is what I have identified as the key principles to a content life, and as long as I follow this path I know I don't need to worry that I am wasting my life .
A day where I write down my dreams, do yoga, meditate, eat well and ethically, and hug my wife and tell her I love her is a day well lived, and a life composed of days well lived is a good life.
I only wish I had lived this way consistently from the very start. But I am grateful all the suffering of bad addictions and lost opportunities for self development are behind me.
I know who I am. I know where I am going. I know what I have to do.

I love this post. I have been doing the same basically. Weed makes me dull and anxious but generally coffee and kratom I find are safe. Stick to the lower dosage ends and you function perfectly fine in most situations
Yoga and meditation really begin to unlock a lot in the human mind

Hang tough all my brothers and sisters Breathe deep Seek peace Have faith in the universe that created you and sustains you Rejoice in your physical incarnation on this plane Savour every breath Be grateful for every heart beat Cleave to love and fill your heart with compassion and wisdom Make of yourself and your life an offering to the divine And make the fulfillment of your highest potential an act of worship Whatever your work , however humble Make it an act of karma yoga Serving all beings as manifestations of the one Rejoice in the creation that embodies the Divine mind The universal soul, the architect, the dreamer In whose dream we live and breathe and have our being And we too are dreamers And our dreams have the potence of sorcery For we are souls , citizens of two worlds Empowered to walk between the planes And dreams are our gateway to infinity Spirit walkers In a spiritual realm Knowing that beyond this world of maya Lies enlightenment, nirvana, liberation And fixing our eyes on the goal of transcendence We attain to the summit of ascension.

That's beautiful moonshoe. I'm your age and feel like I'm just starting to become good. I've never had any addictions, unless you consider sugar. But I've had problems with my mentality such as depression and ptsd. I hope to one day feel as true as you.

My recognition of the impending global catastrophes motivated me to transcend anxiety through spiritual living. I no longer follow the news or worry about the impending global catastrophes . I know and accept that it is coming , and I have prepared extensively . Having prepared physically, I have turned my attention to preparing emotionally and spiritually. I no longer follow the news or study the coming catastrophes.
Instead I meditate, practice yoga, and spiritual living. This has allowed me to cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment.
My anxiety levels are at a historic low. My depression is a thing of the past.
And i know my state of consciousness is continuing to progress towards liberation and enlightenment as I continue my practice of spiritual disciplines on a daily basis.
As I attain a state of peace I prepare for the next phase, shift includes spiritual use of DMT as part of a ceremonial ritual process, as well as cultivating a return to lucid dreaming , out of body experiences, ayahuasca shamanism, ritual and ceremonial magick etc.
Recognition of the impending global catastrophes was the catalyst I needed to commit fully to what has always been my purpose in life - attaining enlightenment through spiritual discipline.
Just as the Buddha was catalyzed to attain enlightenment through recognition of the inevitability of death ( when he first saw a corpse) and went on to meditate under the Bodhi tree, my own recognition of the impermanence of this world has steeled my resolve to achieve spiritual transcendence
Thank you for all the kind words and positive comments and contributions.
The only way to make peace with the inevitability of ones death is to be certain you are living your life the best possible way. The greatest fear is not truly death but rather a wasted life.
Rare and precious is this human incarnation, fleeting and uncertain is life, therefore delay not nor procrastinate but turn your efforts toward awakening and liberation.
Attachment to that which is impermanent is the root of suffering, the eightfold noble path is the way to the end of suffering .
To the Buddha, the Dharma and the excellent Sangha I go for refuge until Bodhi is realized . May I awaken quickly for the benefit of all beings.
I now sit and resume meditation once again.
Namaste.

Thanks man thank all of you guys. I hope some of you will join me in this journey even if it's just a single yoga class or 15 minutes of meditation.
I have been feeling really positive and well lately, so I know it's time for me to get serious. Tomorrow on my day off I am going to wake up, do yoga, meditate and then sit at my altar, do a magical ritual and at the climax of the ceremony I am going to smoke a big hit of cannabis with dmt sandwiched in it; from my stone pipe, And then as it hits me I am going to stare into the eyes of Krishna on the painting in front of my altar and hold that gaze for the entire trip while I chant the maha mantra.
I hope this will catapult me to enlightenment.
My buddy keeps telling me I need To try salvia. I have a gram of 30x extract but dmt seems far more appealing to work with.
I am also going to eat the mushroom chocolates I have, probably enough for a threshold dose.
It's taken me a while but I feel like I am finally psychically ready to resume my psychedelic shamanism.
I also plan to lie in bed (on the mushrooms, cannabis and Kratom ) and do 3 Consecutive hours of binaural beats meditation - alpha, theta then delta.
During the theta phase I will attempt to astral project / induce an OBE.
I am also going to make one more change- I am going to sacrametalize my cannabis use, chanting the shiva mantra an offering the smoke to shiva each time I use, as the Hindu sadhus do.
This all represents "phase two" of my enlightenment project.

Juicing is a great cheat here, when I start noticing im eating too much junk and not enough fruits/veggies, I just pull out the juicer and force my self to drink one veggie juice and one fruit juice a day, and in less then a week, I find my self going for the fruits/veggies for a snack instead of the chips/chocolait

I'm all but certain yoga will play a huge part in the dawn of a new humanity by introducing concepts like active spiritual practice, growth, learning, and meditation to much of the world. This will be a huge change from fixed belief based approaches to religion. Already you can see how the seeds of active spirituality in the form of yoga are spreading worldwide.
Of course there won't be much change until after everyone gets to see the kind of problems the old, ego driven states of mind create. There will be some hard lessons learned and some cleaning house that occurs in the near future. Anybody even remotely tapped in to the undercurrents of life has given up on even trying to bring about a smooth transition to a better future. Everyone who can sense these things now understands that humanity will not learn the easy way.
The best thing a person can do these days is distance themselves from the problems of the world and align themselves toward more evolved states of mind. Right now trying to help solve problems goes against the greater currents of life. It seems counter intuitive, but it makes sense to step back and allow disaster to occur.
Imagine the world doesn't have any problems. No need to help fix things. What would we do then? Play? That's what we should be doing now to make sure that we stay aligned with what is being built. We need to be sure that we are a part of the solution and not a part of the problem by building an identity around trying to do "good" or "help".
I thought I'd mention this since it is something that folks that care often get caught up in. Yes, the world is headed for some tough times, but it is the way that it has to be now. The opportunities to transition to peace and sustainability without hard lessons have passed. Just stay out of the way and allow things to play out.
Moonshoe got the message. Best be heeding it. Align yourself for a decent future even if it doesn't look like we are headed that way right now. Just find your peace and play as if things aren't about to go to hell.

I don't know if you're diagnosed or not, but based only on posts I see you make in WCA and occasional pub stuff you appear to have bipolar disorder. I obviously don't know you personally so that's my longshot assumption, but it's something to keep in mind.
The credibility of the rest of your post is lessened if so, which is the only reason I felt the need to mention that. Regardless, it's mostly good advice. I just want to play the devils advocate, and allow me one more oh so devilish assessment of this: I think calling any substance other than food and water a key or pillar to well-being is also unwise, but you're entitled to believe the contrary.
All said, I'm happy you're happy, good post, your advice is well-intentioned.
Also I'm still coming down off my first and last meth binge so don't listen to anything I say because clearly I seem to have "lost my keys" to well-being

@Modestmouse: Bipolar, no, absolutely not, not even remotely similar to me.
I do have symptoms of OCD, and in the past I have had anxiety/panic and depression symptoms, but none of that really applies now, except the OCD.
But bipolar, not at all. I don't have manic episodes or manic swings, and I also don't have depressive swings.
At this point the only real condition I could be said to have is kratom dependence.
No one I know has ever suggested i might be bipolar, including my wife, doctor, family or friends.
But my Brother often tells me I am OCD and frankly thats obvious to me. For example each time I left the house I would touch all the elements like three times to make sure I didn't leave them on when I left the house, and then I would go outside, and then go back in, touch all the elements again, sometimes up to 3-4 times.
Or before I go to bed I would reach out and touch the hilt of my sword, 3-4 times, before going to sleep, so I know exactly where it is so I can grab it in the night.
Or after I dose kratom, I check that my kratom is back in my pocket 3-4 times, but still go back into the bathroom another 3-4 times to make sure I didn't leave kratom lying around.
Mentally I know perfectly well the kratom is in my pocket, or the element is off, but I get this compulsion to repeat the same pattern of activity more then is logical.
Thats how I know I have some amount of OCD. My brother says this also manifests in my tendency to make detailed lists and plans, such as in my "project mastermind" thread, my "magic keys to everything" thread and this current thread.
My Brother actually was diagnosed with Bipolar, but thats one condition I have never even suspected I might have.
I do periodically get intense anxiety about global events, especially various aspects of the global ecological crisis.
This is partly because I wrote my Master's thesis on the Global Ecological Crisis, and came to have a highly advanced understanding of just how fucked we really are, based on my studies of biodiversity loss, climate change, and numerous other aspects of ecological collapse in the modern world.
However, I passed a threshold where it no longer made sense to worry about something I know knew would happen.
Its one thing to worry that a catastrophe might happen but might not, but once you realize that it will certainly happen, worrying just ends up wasting the time you have left.
So accepting that, I just unplugged from news or information about what is happening, because frankly I already know far more about it then almost anyone else and far more then I wish I knew.
Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power, and knowledge of spirituality leads to a bliss far more profound then the bliss of ignorance.
Anyways, recognizing my own tendency to depression and anxiety, I have structured a disciplined and comprehensive lifestyle system that incorporates all aspects (exercise, diet, meditation, social life, preperation etc) all of which is aimed at allowing me to transcend the depression and anxiety that I would otherwise feel.
I would prefer to be happy and content, calm and vigorous, without reliance on any drugs whatsoever, but this is not a reality for me, and I have come to accept that I require the assistance of plant medicines to thrive and fully enjoy and actualize my life.
I am just so grateful that natural, safe plant medicines like cannabis and kratom are enough to allow me to achieve the calm, happy vitality I desire, and that I have not been forced to become addicted to pharmaceutical antidepressants, benzodiazepines, alcohol, pharmaceutical opiates, heroin or chemical stimulants.
When I looks around I see that addiction is virtually universal. Everyone requires some chemical assistance to function day to day, be it coffee , sugar, alcohol, weed or drugs.
Therefore I gave up on the false idea that "drugs are bad" or its better to have no addictions, as being unrealistic and ungrounded in reality.
Instead I came to see that addiction is neither good nor bad in itself, what makes the difference is wisely choosing WHAT to be addicted to.
By ensuring that I have become addicted to healthy things, like exercise, yoga, spiritual living and healthy plant medicines, I have avoided the living hell that so many others have fallen into by choosing less sustainable addictions.
I do also work towards a long term goal of gradually reducing my tolerance and dependence on kratom, and have ordered a half kilo of stem and vein, by switching to stem and vein only for up to a month at a time I intend to drastically lower my tolerance and dependence on the main addictive alkaloids in kratom leaf, and perhaps even discontinue the stem and vein at the end of that process.
However, I suspect kratom will always be a valued part of my life and a major tool in my medicine box. In all my life of experimenting with drugs, plants, herbs and medicines, nothing has ever helped me nearly as much as kratom.
For me it has been a miracle drug, although after years of daily use there have been some downsides. However, the benefits still outweigh them considerably in my estimation.
One thing I did not mention in the OP is that I also continue to use daily supplementation.
At the present time I am supplementing
Oral Magnesium- extremely healthy and also plays a role in reducing kratom tolerance Turmeric - extremely healthy, anti inflammatory, anti cancer properties and plays a role in potentiation of kratom Vitamin D- very important and in my climate people are severely deficient in it, so I supplement it daily during the long winter Milk Thistle- my trademark herbal recommendation, I take it with each kratom dose to ensure liver health
Just some addendum.
Thanks all for your comments, input, questions, suggestions, reflections and contributions!
I am going to go to yoga shortly, then meditate when I return home from yoga.
I have been enjoying thoroughly video games such as the Witcher 2 and the Witcher 3, as part of my philosophy of relaxing and enjoying life to the fullest.

See this is what I'm talking about. I just know you have a spreadsheet somewhere detailing all your supplements, spiritual practices etc. Or like a white board with some kind of chart on it.
Your enthusiasm for your passions does come across as somewhat manic, though, so I could see where ModestMouse would guess bi-polar. I don't really ever see you on a depressive side of a cycle though, so it doesn't really seem to fit. It really is awesome that you are so dedicated to your health and well-being and you seem really aware of what does and does not work for your, so you're on a good path for yourself.
One of the biggest elements to my own health & well being has been sorting out what is the ideal diet for my constitution. It's taken me YEARS of experimentation to figure out that I really need more animal protein and less grain/starch in my diet. I'm conflicted over this because of factory farming, but I'm doing my best to buy the the best that I can afford.
Talking about addictions, I think sugar is one of the absolute WORST drugs out there, and the whole fucking world is addicted.

Moonshoe, so happy to see you got here at 28. The best years of your life are ahead of you, with all this awareness. Enjoy it to the full. I wish I had been there at 28.
If I may make two small points.
You say you "recognize" the impending global catastrophes. And rightly so. But as a Buddhist I'm sure you know what I mean when I say that your next spiritual and psychological task is to "unrecognize" them. This does not make them less true. It does, however, make you independent of them.
Shedding this dependency is, I think, a necessary condition to further your enlightenment. This goes much further then just accepting the catastrophes. You can accept them, but still be dependent, still revolve around them. I believe that if you do not already realize this, then spiritual growth will at some point make you do so.
Please, think about this.
The other thing is: learn to sleep without a sword. I can do it, that means you can too. I find that sleeping with my wife on one side, and my sword on the other puts quite a responsibility on me. There is always the theoretical possibility, however remote and unthinkable, that I might do something to her in a sleep drunk fit of madness. So I can never completely relax next to the sword. Therefore, let go. One day, sleep without the sword. I'm sure this too is a necessary step towards inner peace and enlightenment.
Keep us in the know. I respect and love you.
Love, Hanz.

Yes my body also requires lots of animal protein for optimum health and happiness However I try my hardest to avoid factory farmed meat I emphasize elk, bison, venison, freshwater fish and moose. These meats are far superior ethically, nutritionally and Taste wise. If you can't get this look for free range meat, grass fed beef and ethically sourced seafood, and Turkey is in my opinion superior to Turkey.
I agree that sugar is one of the absolute worst addictions and one of the most dangerous and harmful drugs.

When I eat elk, venison etc I feel so Euphoric and energized it's almost like a drug. Moose in particular is amazing.

Great comments and input , thank you!
My wife and I both sleep with weapons beside Us.
My sword is in a sheathe so it would require Me to pick the sword up and unstrap it before It would be dangerous. This would require Me To be fully awake, so there is no risk of me accidentally hurting someone well Asleep.

But people are fat and fucking lazy so they'd rather have McDonalds for dinner then sit at a computer and whine on the internet that they're depressed

The cheapest health food on earth is bones and organs. Beef liver is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. I would be surprised if you didnt feel a significant boost in vitality eating it daily
As with you moon. I strongly suggest looking into it. Organs are really the bee's knees

IMO even with healthy diet and lifestyle one can be depressed. Life events that you cant control often drain your energy. It can get very frustrating

Did you mean that turkey is superior to chicken?
Red meat from cows does not sit well with me but venison and elk most certainly does. I wish I could get it more readily where I live. Maybe more available once I move back up North! I have never has moose, but I would try it if given the chance....

My guns and ammo are locked up, no chance of that.
And Buddhism and a warrior ethic are not in any way contradictory.
Buddhism and the Samurai have a long association for example.
Being a Buddhist does not imply that one is unwilling or unable to defend ones life or loved ones.
Martial arts is just as much a core part of my spiritual practice as meditation and yoga.

I agree completely.
Both yoga and martial arts (shaolin Kung fu) were developed by dedicated monks as a way to prepare the body for long periods of meditation and to allow them to sit in meditation for long periods of time without their bodies atrophying.
Both Yoga and Martial arts are both a form of moving meditation in there own right, as well as a way to prepare the body for meditation.

Hmm. Ok, I can see it fits into your world view. And I agree being able to defend your loved ones can be part of a Buddhist way of life (as far as I know these things). Still, having a weapon next to my bed would be too much for me. It would posses me in a way that I would find disturbing. The mere option of aggressive action, however defensive or channeled, would not allow me to relax to the point I need.
It could very well be that there is something lacking in my more pacifist way of life. My only weapons to defend my loved ones would be reason and love. These may well not be enough in some situations. I don't have all the answers. But having weapons near me when I rest would disturb my regenerative balance.
It's all in the past now, but know that I have a history of aggressive outbursts and uncontrollable behavior. I guess I'm still afraid of what I can do to my surroundings. Bless my meds, I'm a peaceful guy now...
Love, Hanz.

Buddhism and the Samurai have a long association for example.
Being a Buddhist does not imply that one is unwilling or unable to defend ones life or loved ones.
you are aware that the samurai were not simply defending their families and homes many were brutal warlords that treated lesser classes as lower than shit, they called them burakumin, an untouchables class who's life was at the whim of a samurai and it's no different in other buddhist cultures in which classist ideology is rampant with the monks taking the throne and mistreating those under them
the only people I know of that would associate themselves with these faiths are the ones that dont know about these faiths because they were not born into it

common buddhist principle to never kill. You need to fight enemies away with your mind.

buddhist action is to rule and dominate even of that means you have to torture and kill your enemies, where you get this never kill philosophy is certainly not from actual buddhism. it seems to be from soome romanticized view of the beliefs

You don't rly have to call yourself Buddhist to make spiritual progress. I do Buddhist meditation, I chant krishna's name, read the teachings of Jesus, and try to be vegatarian. You can take whatever you want from any religion and incorporate it into your life. Life your life how you want man

so you're saying that samurai were peace loving people that only lived to serve others and never harmed anything outside of survival such as to defend their life and to eat. maybe you're saying that tibetan buddist never kidnapped children and forced them into slavery under the guise of being novitiates
what a book says and what is practiced are completely different animals, nearly all religions teach that killing is wrong and that is should not be done but as we see from the actions of these practitioners of these faiths, the teachings have no meaning
even you practice bastard buddhism

I think he is referring to ahimsa. Non-violence is a funny concept often taken way out of context. you are allowed to defend yourself, and speak the truth if it helps others. Its a vague concept up to interpretation
Pointlessly harming other beings outside of basic food and sustenance is where ahimsa is broken and this should be avoided

so it's ok to kill people as long as you intend to eat them

What I am saying is the wisdom of the Buddha, as expressed in the Dhammapada, is transcendent and impeccable , And that by studying and applying this majestic profundity is to the benefit of all beings.
The wisdom of the Buddha as expressed in that book of his own sayings is beyond reproach, Containing within it the way to liberation.
No injustice or wrongdoing was brought about by the Buddhas teaching and any crimes Commited do not have their root or seed in the Dharma.

Lol I'm so glad someone gets it. Someone always brings up random events like Buddhists killing Muslims somewhere to try and act like Buddhism is inherently violent
