yes, 15 years is better than average--but I was shooting for 18.Lhasas are fairly long lived--12-14 years and can go to 18 with a little luck. Big dogs don't fare as well. A golden retriever is old at 8. Boxers too. If you want your dog to be around a while, get small.

First time? How do you deduce that from the post?
She has been to vets numerous times in her life. I wouldn't be surpised if that fact didn't help shorten her life. If I had my way, I would not fool with vets--or MDs either--for more than setting bones and, in the case of dogs, cleaning teeth. I wish I had had my dog's teeth cleaned more often.

Yes, it is enough to give you PTSD.

Who knows anything sadder--except, I guess, losing a child--than this sort of thing?
I am so sorry for your loss. I know what it feels like. I lost a boxer to cancer a few years ago. We had raised her from a pup and she had one hell of a personality. She was part of the family, truly.
That pain stems from love, and so it hurts the worst. Time will numb it more and more, but you'll always miss them and wish they were there with you. You have to just cherish the memories.
I think the only thing worse is losing a child. Honestly, I'd sacrifice a lot of people to have my dog back or to see her again.

i misread your message. you say that till you get a dog with parvo. or a ruptured cruciate, eats a fish hook, starts seizing, eats something toxic, or has raging vomiting or diarrhea, or collapses. blah blah blah ... Just like how people hate the police until they need them. LOL
