New grow after 5 year hiatus, questions

Super excited to do another run and try to last another few years without having to set up shop.
I wanted an update on any new methods since my last grew if possible.
My last grow I did RR's quart jars/rye berries tek with spore syringes and spawned into a monotub with coco coir and vermiculite(Damion5050 Elemntary Coir Tek.)
I am innoculating 8 quart jars this week and plan on making 2 tubs with everything throughout the winter months.
Anything wrong with this plan? I see agar mentioned much more here now vs in my day, is that a more popular method used now?
Has anything changed?
I wish I could do my old greenhouse set up because I had muuuch better luck with that vs a monotub but I cant have a greenhouse this time around
This was my most successful grow in a greenhouse with plastic shoe containers:

I had about 8 of these fruiting at once it was awesome.
Biggest mushroom from that grow:

Sounds like you got a solid method. In my personal opinion if your just doing a quick run and not going to be continually growing agar will be useless unless you just feel like playing or growing more than you think you can with 1 syringe. With agar as I'm sure you know you can isolate out genetics to improve yield and thats a plus. Someone else could argue that starting them on agar and dropping a wedge into the jar is quicker because you don't have to wait for germination and you'll be able to see if there are any contaminations on the wedge early on. Thats all true and really those are the benefits, but if your only growing two tubs and doing 8 jars I would do it just how your about to do it.

Can you please link me to a good monotub tek? My last tub worked but it was kinda shitty compared to my greenhouse casings and etc. Some of the tubs I see people do blow me away in comparison to what mine have yielded...

Monotub stuff worth reading:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17332777
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21032606
I think the agar trend is probably because:
Easier agar teks became popular
More reliable
Maybe genetic potency became more accepted
For all the people that have extremely high personal usage requirements, perhaps the failure rate of spores to grain became unacceptable. IME it's a decent way to go.
I'm suprised all those spore LC's worked. Every one I ever made failed. I've never had a vendor syringe though, and never cared to try since I started doing agar work.
Monotubs are pretty great. Hope it works better for you this time. I really prefer to case, the pinsets are considerably better IME.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

This is great thank you. I use the polyfill in the tops of jar lid method like this:

Is there a method I may not know about with putting the polyfill in those lids? I just make it tighter rather than looser I would describe it as?

Check out modifying your kids to SFDs instead of polyfil. It's super easy to do and the lids do well through multiple PC runs.

8 quarts, 2 tubs. How big are your tubs?
Welcome back as well. Your last method worked, and seemed to kept you well stocked. I wouldn't change anything!

The link in my signature of my final grow is a monotub log. I prefer WBS as well for bulk, as WBS is much smaller and gives many more inoculation points!

My lid tek in signature.
Goodluck.

No plans for size of tubs yet, trying to keep it on the smaller size but I just remember using 4 jars for a tub last time. I'll find a good tek or one of these recommended and just follow it.
Your mini casing thing looks awesome in your sig. I want to try something like that.
I know what is going to happen, I am going to have the 8 jars colonizing and I'm gonna buy 10 more and probably keep experimenting because it will take over again

Lookin good!! As long as the polyfill is stuffed super tight, it'll work great as a GE filter.
I believe SFD's are the most popular these days, but it really is tedious work trying to glue on a small disc to all those jar lids (and the smell of silicone is very unpleasant too), when you could easily stuff the lid with some poly, and have very similar colonization rates.

Ah unfortunately that jar is from my old grow but I'll be inoculating one day this week with the same method

Is that too little spawn for a tub like this?
(Ohmatic's tub pic) http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8231041/page/2/fpart/1/vc/1
This is what my old tub size looked like, I think I used 4 jars for it. EDIT: OK he is using 6 jars per tub, that's what I will do I guess
I laid in bed all night and was like FUCK IT! Order a few more syringes lets just keep cranking out jars yolo. So I will do that soon hahahaha.
Those minitubs look awesome though I might try to just have a constant stream of little tubs coming along

You don't need 6 quarts for those tubs. 3-4 will get it done. Just use a thinner sub, may be rewarded with better BE.
8 quarts over 6 full monos would be pretty damn sparse though.
You can inoculate a lot of jars with a singe syringe, just use like 1/4cc per jar and you could potentially do 24. Not likely to slow you down much either. You could also use half your syringe and then suck up some new sterilized water, or simply save a few drops of spore solution for agar plates. Could also G2G with one of your jars.

welcome back H!
well described no pour agar tek
Pastywhyte likes mini monos
in regards to the monotub I guess the only thing that's "changed" is people are more aware of giving max FAE and how that can really make a tub explode.
a thin casing layer helps me boost the FAE without drying up the sub surface
