Growing into dry layer

So its been 11 days and 5/6 brf cakes have some nice growth, cake 6 just had a tiny bit of growth for the first time today in one point. But would it be bad news if the mycelium grew into the dry verm layer and became exposed to the air under the lid?
From what has been read this happens usually after full to almost full colonization, but the jars seem to be at 20-30%.

Hmm that's strange. I wonder if you injected a bunch of spores right at the top or something.
My guess is that means your verm layer was moist. Hope it's mushroom mycellium
A moist verm layer isn't good, but if it's colonized it will protect the uncolonized substrate below just the same.
If/when it does fully colonize, I would suggest taping up like 3/4 of the holes on the cake to prevent drying and allow less FAE.
Pics would be helpful for determining what might actually be going on.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

The mycelium usually grows into the dry layer a little bit. When steaming the moisture will dampen the dry verm layer, I think.

I've been wondering about this too. I'm on my 8th pf grow and I noticed when I birthed one of my lasts cakes it had colonized most of the dry layer. No contam tho. That I'm aware of anyway....

It seems those cakes also might have shrunk during the pressure cooking process.

As the mycelium grows and absorbs nutrients and water you'll notice the whole cake shrinks! I don't. Think that happens in the PC cycle.

I've had BRF jars with mycelium colonizing the dry verm layer. The mycelium spreads out and looks for more nutrients. As long as it smells good and you see no contamination then you should be good.

Yeah, my guess would be that the dry layer was a little bit wetter than it should have been and it's being colonized as an additional water source.
