Keep in mind if your not a seasoned shooter your body will flinch when your body tenses up for the shot. Also many many people who haven't hunted get excited when they are about to shoot a live animal and their body shakes ever so slightly. These suttle movements will make your shot at 30 yards miss at up to a couple feet. Let's say the squirrel your shooting is on a tree 3 feet wide in the middle. If you flinch slightly and you shoot 2 feet off as I said before you'd miss the tree and the bullet is now on a dangerous course. Keep this in mind.
The piece of advice I can give you is this. Squeeze the trigger with the pad of your finger not in between the digits. Many people pull the trigger with the spot in between digits. This causes your shot to goto the right dramiticly. To see this try aiming your pistol with a laser sight at a wall 20 yards away and pull the trigger and watch how far the laser goes to the right. Imagine this at 30 yards now. use the pad of the end of your finger and try the same thing. your shot will be much more accurate.
back to squeezing the trigger. I don't care how fucking seasoned a shooter you are, if you pull a trigger on a rifle your body tenses up no matter what you do. Think if I'm behind you and slam a hammer on the ground. Your eyes will blink whether you like it or not. Same with a gun. So heres the trick that all good hunters use. Squeeze the trigger not pull. As you aim at a target your gun will be moving no matter how steady you are. Every time you move over the target squeeze the trigger a bit more. Who knows when the gun is going to go off but every time you move over the target squeeze the trigger a bit more.....BOOM!!!! Since your body wasn't expecting the gun to go off your body didn't flinch. IF you pull the trigger your body knows when the gun is going to go off and will tense up and move slightly. Put your hands in front of you right now and tense them up...I bet they moved didn't they, same thing if your body is expecting the gun to go off.
So squeeze the trigger a bit more every time you pass over your target...super tiny squeezes. That's why if you watch a hunting show it seems like he aims at the animal for awhile.. he's squeezing the trigger just a tad more every time he moves over the target.
I'm drunk so I don't care if I misspelled words.

Speaking of ricochet- Having seen this video has scared me off from shooting at steel targets.
That is scary, ricocheting bullets can and do happen even when you think you are being safe.

Don't think it would stop a bear on a hike but nice anyways.
I'm actually gonna get one next week along with my CCW.
They are perfect for concealed carry.

No doubt. There are some powerful handguns out there that are light-weight. Will probably break your wrist but hey x)

I am in Canada. The Liberals are back in power so next time there is a mass shooting we can kiss our handguns goodbye and the semi autos should follow soon after they figure out how to find them.

Some woods you can go in without a gun. Like here in the Northeast. My sister lived in Yellow Pine Idaho for a while. She did not go into the woods without a gun.

I was out in RMNP earlier this year and while on a far off trail I came across a guy carrying a shotgun. I was coming out of a side area right onto the trail he was on, was taken aback by it a bit. Thought he might have been a ranger at first but maybe he wasn't as I learned later people are allowed to carry firearms in national parks.
Just before that I was on this rock outcropping and saw a pretty large blood trail that looked fresh, bears and mountain lions aren't too common there but something had made a kill that day.

As a kid I had access to two separate .22 caliber rifles. One was a super old bolt action Savage, I believe, and the other was a Winchester. All I ever wanted to do back then was read, watch old cartoons, and shoot tin cans. I guess I'm still that way.
When I turned 12 my father gifted me an H&R 20 gauge single shot shotgun. Man, that thing was cool. It was really short. My friends would joke that it looked like something a mob enforcer would have under his jacket despite being that way from the factory.
I remember being really proud of myself the first time I tried to one-hand it and it worked out just fine.

I don't think you understood my point. In Yellow Pine they had brown bears and wolves. We do not have that problem in the northeast.

Both of my parents are actually democrats. I was shooting without adult supervision probably 80% of the time growing up and I NEVER had any issues and never got in trouble for it. It just wasn't a big deal and shouldn't be a big deal now.
My dad grew up on a farm and knew that guns were part of the lifestyle. He also believed in the hunting tradition. He taught me the basics and that was all I needed to stay safe. I pity kids now that can't go out and shoot. It's a tremendously good skill to have as long as you aren't a homicidal nutcase or a dumbass.
