It reminds me of a Violet Cort, but the cap seems off.

I would go with Cortinarius as the genus. Not sure on the species.

You can't walk anywhere in Astoria without falling over them.
You'll find the occasionally azzie with a red stem. I asked Alan about this yesterday after I had (sadly) threw a handful away thinking they were poisonous lookalikes. According to Alan Rockefeller, "They often turn reddish in age when the white mycelium on the surface collapses."
Azzies will pop with a rootlike mycelial structure at their base. Rootlike mycelium will crawl up it.
As far as that picture, it's the wrong blue/purple/black you're looking for. Also notice the cap. I've never seen an azzie get wavy. The thickness of the stem in relation to the cap is off.
I'm going to guess you found it in dune grass close to conifers along a path? That's where I always see them, at the treeline, or where the two climates meet.
Don't forget they feed off decaying wood and decaying wood can be buried under the sand
Azzies also form mycelial mats. When you see one you'll see more. Kind of like "where there's smoke, there's fire". Look for that deadwood and where the grasses get more sparse. No sense breaking an ankle in a burrow you can't see on a dune.
Protip: I found one of my azzies growing out of the side of a cut-through path. Just chilling growing outside of the path cut into the dune. Phone was dead no pics but I'll love that find forever. So cool.
Good luck guys and girls and keep up the good work! Stay safe; every hunter deserves to come home safe, sound and unscathed.

Here's a pic of a red stemmed azzie. The top blued after I flicked it (don't do this if you want prints).
Notice *the lack of* the tell-tale blue ring where the cap meets the gills. You'll see some with a bright blue ring around that area dependent upon its stage of growth.
Also notice the bluing on the stipe (stem) of #3 in the set below this first pic.
Notice the lack of a blue ring on #3. It's tan and was old, exposed to sun more than the rest of the patch, and older.

As below, numbered:
1) after taking it out of the ground
2) mature fruit
3) Old mature fruit with size comparison

Edit to add: Don't smoke around these habitats! That dying grass is a tinderbox.

You know, I had that feeling in my areas, there were some but I thought they were something else growing amongst them. Practice makes perfect I suppose. Is there anything you don't know?
