So most of us have mental health issues... 3

I was reading up about the link between mental health and substance abuse. It's clear to everyone that there is an obvious link, but the numbers kinda shocked me
Mental health disorder patient are responsible for the comsumption of:
- 38% of alcohol - 44% of cocaine - 40% of cigarettes
People who have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder a some point in their lives are responsible for the consumption of:
- 69% of alcohol - 84% of cocaine - 68% of cigarettes
Essentially its safe to say that if you are a cocaine addict, you have or had mental health issues. So if you snort regularly and think you have good mental health, you are most likely wrong.
The alcohol numbers are surprising to me given that a huge percentage of the population drink. The majority of them represent 30%.... Essentially alcohol profits come mostly from people with mental health.
Thoughts?

I think it's less the substance and more the environment. It's a crazy world, not surprising that most of us catch the disease.

this study shows me that the first group is being treated for mental health disorders,
the second group hasn't been helped, or doesn't believe in conventional psychiatric treatment to some extent.

Link? It's an interesting subject. Is addiction considered a mental health issue? Alcoholism?
I never thought it was before, then I tried to stop drinking. It's like theres a little man in there telling me to go buy booze. It's clear to me now that it is a disease.
Cigarettes too. It's not like I have even tried to quit, but it makes sense that people with mental health issues consume so many cigs. It is a way to ground yourself and take you out of your head.

Alcoholism is a spiritual disease. Because if it was physical, surely doctors and modern science could cure it. Funny how when you work 12 simple steps and place your trust into a higher power of your own understanding, how you can stay sober and get blessings in life.

I have never tried cocaine or smoked a cigarette nor do I want to for either of those things. I do like the occasional hard cider from time to time but I don't get drunk because I don't enjoy it. However I do love my grass. Also this one time I got addicted to hydrocodone(1-2 pills almost nightly, legit prescription though). I had no idea addiction to it was possible.

I'll spare the trite recounting of examples of how fucked up the world is today and just say that people who don't need to drink or do drugs in response to life today are the fucked up ones, and they make these statistics up to make us feel even worse.

Alcohol is an interesting one though because it has been used for SO long by humans and animals alike. I think there have been points in history in many different cultures where it was very commonplace to drink the amount of alcohol that most people today would consider alcoholism. Also different people from different parts of the world have different tolerances to it.
Not trying to argue for alcoholism, but I just find it interesting.

I have always found it interesting how people that drink daily can point a finger in judgment at those that use other drugs responsibly on a daily basis.
It's like they think just because those other drugs are illegal, and the substance they like is legal, that it's OK to judge others and call them drug addict.

I've said before, the fastest way to get ratted on for weed is to smell like it around an alcoholic.
Patlal would probably be an exception, I mean people who are alcoholics exclusively. Alcoholism runs in my family, but thankfully I just smoke weed and have no real love affair with the stuff.

Everyone on the planet has a potential diagnosis with the help of the latest DSM(diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders). It's the bible used to warrant the writing of a profitable script for just about any non-compliant small child with parents looking for answers from their family doctor. The real money is in treating the problem and using meds as a crutch rather than finding and addressing the source.
Anyone who is torrent capable can download their own copy. DSM-V
There are 15 new disorders in the latest edition. I read somewhere that cannabis withdrawal is a new one. A medical marijuana card should take care of that one. http://www.dsm5.org/Documents/changes%20from%20dsm-iv-tr%20to%20dsm-5.pdf

The DSM isn't exclusively for drug addiction, but there's conditions for everything under the sun in that book. It works well for boys who are more than what parents and teachers are willing to deal with, and for confused adults who can't figure out themselves on their own and need something to fix their problems for them. Don't get me wrong, there are legitimate disorders and people who need real help, but the book makes a diagnosis resulting in a script for anyone a slam dunk for the doc.

It's all bullshit. First of all, whenever they send you to rehab, a lot of places do "Dual diagnosis," basically meaning that they have you meet with a psychiatrist, within 5 minutes or less they label you some shit you're really not so they can load you up on tranquilizers and anti-psychotics. Hence why there's such a strong correlation between mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse.
The reality is, most of these people are not actually mentally ill. You CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT obtain a truly accurate diagnosis until somebody has been completely sober for at least 1 year. What you may perceive as mental illness, could actually be the effects of drug withdrawal, drug taper, drug rebound effect, etc.
Example: I was labeled "schizophrenic" when I started having visual and auditory hallucinating from a 6-month meth binge. This does not actually make me schizophrenic, this was clearly the effects of drugs making it appear as if I was mentally ill.
I've been accused of "being manic" when in reality it's always been when I was just withdrawing from benzo's or opiates.

War-torn places are definitely full of substance abuse and addiction. I guess you assume that people who are tramuatized by war are just too busy to go around maintaining a habit, but like addiction war is not a constant activity it is a sporadic and unpredictable mixture of waiting around wondering what's to happen next, trying to meet your survival needs, and very short bursts of intense anxiety, fear, and tension.
If anything addiction slips into war like a hand into a glove. People who come out of a war who aren't primed for addiction are the exception.

lol I highly doubt that. Plus, killing in itself can be classified as an addiction for some.
Theres a lot of factors in the theory that experience causes that addict mentality. That's why you'll see em in all parts of the social hierarchy. The people you surround yourself with is one of those factors.

I'm fucking nuts and I love a big fat pile of cocaine laying in front of me with a bottle of jack in one hand and a hooker in another with a cigarette hanging out my mouth. It's been something like six years or eight years maybe more and I can still taste it sometimes when I sniffle. I did a lot. It wasn't fun. Who am I kidding it was a blast.

If you have a bottle of bourbon in one hand and a hooker in the other, are you typing with your dangus?

Just remembering the feeling of cocaine made me realize I'm going to miss opiates like this too down the road. I love being clean. It's envigorating.
One of the girls at the titty bar was named Roxi and she was in all blue. Made me think of oxy 30s. Drug addiction is messed up.

There are kids in the middle east armed to the teeth fighting in wars. You don't see them with a substance abuse problem. They got shit to do.
lol I highly doubt that. Plus, killing in itself can be classified as an addiction for some.
I just watched that the other day. Poor kids can't even imagine the horrors they face when the reporters leave

One of the boys in that documentary was a 9 year old prostitute and heroin addict. I really hope his identity didn't get leaked after the making of that documentary, seeing as how homosexuality is a serious crime, punishable by death, in Afghanistan.

Crystal G said: It's all bullshit.
Not to be rude or anything, but I'll still

Having mental issues, or being eccentric and unconventional, is not the same as having a mental illness that would be characterized under the DSM-V.

So, if I have ever consumed alcohol, cocaine or cigarettes than I likely have a Mental Disorder? It doesn't say anything about how much, how often, or how long any of said people diagnosed used any of said substances, it only does imply that people with a form of Mental Disorder are likely to self medicate with said substances.

we have a society that determines mental illness based off of how well you fit into an unnatural world without any resistance or stress. You faggots don't understand the true meaning of mentally ill and neither do most any more... It's so watered down almost anyone can fall under the umbrella of mentally ill. How about society sucks my cock and I take a shit on its face... Maybe it's the reason people are unhappy. Maybe human design is good and the societal structure is the bad one?
It's fact not maybe to me, but to the average pedestrian for some reason everything is just human flaw and they barely look at the lie they keep perpetuating , that this is actually how life on earth is supposed to function
Every one of you should read the unabombers manifesto and understand what industrialization has done to humanity

Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that amke them terribley unhappy, then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction? It is already happening to some extent in our own society. It is well known that the rate of clinical depression had been greatly increasing in recent decades. We believe that this is due to disruption fo the power process, as explained in paragraphs 59-76. But even if we are wrong, the increasing rate of depression is certainly the result of SOME conditions that exist in today's society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed, modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect, antidepressants area a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to toelrate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable. (Yes, we know that depression is often of purely genetic origin. We are referring here to those cases in which environment plays the predominant role.)
while this might happen i don't beleive it it's purely about money, racketing up more diagnosis and numbing the problem they can't even see what chemicals are doing in your brain without killing it it's bullshit

I got hooked up with a new therapist. The new DSM has come out and he told me my condition doesn't exist anymore and I must be in remission or cured. I'm sure many of you can attest that's certainly not the case if you've read some of my posts...
Because you know, fifteen years of cognitive behavioral therapy and medications just get tossed out the window.
Mental health care is a sad system and a sad societal reflection of love thy neighbor / treat others like you'd want to be treated.
When someone has a bad heart people don't crawl up your ass and judge you and treat you like shit, but when another organ - something important like, you know, the brain - is sick, you're a dangerous monster.
Hide ya kids hide ya wife.

What the fuck.
