i'm not that great but thanks
i just thought it was common knowledge that almost no one has "the real elm oyster". most hobby culture sites are run by people that don't know, or don't care. and the super shiity part is that some of them have never even grown out their strains, so they could be selling you something that won't fruit!
I've looked through all of the threads here that I could find. One of them mentioned a possible Aloha strain that was the real deal, and one said something about a shroomery member that had one. Those were fairly old threads though. So I knew that the chances were almost zero, but still, if the picture in their add for the product was of a Hypsizygus, that is what a person should get. I'm still fairly satisfied, because it looks like it's super aggressive. It also appears that it will produce well, so at least I'll have somethin for my efforts. I can't believe how much supplementing makes a difference!
The good news for me is, elm oysters grow here wild in the fall. I hadn't started my hands on education in agar until the season was over though, so I missed that opportunity. Next year I'll be damn sure to clone one or two of those bastards!

that would be cool if you could find a wild one. yes i'm pretty sure the commerical growers I know that grow it, use the strain from aloha. they all swear by it that it makes huge dense clusters.

I'll get some pics of it again later today. If half of the pins don't abort, it will be a beautiful site!

Ill put them back out in the chamber after two days indoors at 74-76. Hopefully the change will make it fruit. If not these are about to become compost in my garden.

Mine are doing well, considering they are in a SGFC and need a bit more FAE. I'm keeping the temps pretty low, because I have some king bags I'm trying to milk for one more pathetic flush. It's probably about 55-58 degrees in there.

As stated above, I already know that. No way to do that in a SGFC without losing too much humidity. Drawbacks of a SGFC. When spring rolls around, everything goes outside in the nice fresh air.

I have two wild strains, or did have. I may have given one away. I have not tried fruiting them yet. But if you are interested I can send you a wedge or too, I also have spore prints.

Here's a few of the fruits. I just took a few off because I wanted an omelet for breakfast. I'm sure they could have grown a bit more, unless that's all the bigger they get. They tasted pretty mild, and not really very tough. From what I read by RR, I thought they were going to be pretty crappy. Not bad at all, and VERY fast colonizers.
This cluster alone was 3.7oz

A few more fruits. So far the bag has produced 16.7oz. They taste very good, at least to me.

Maybe not the real thing, but I'm amazed at how fast and productive they are!

hey grower. When you fruit these logs outside do you use a greenhouse? or do you just fruit in open air? Would building a small greenhouse substantially increase yield?

They will be broken down into a garden bed at my work for decomposition. If i get fruits great but my ultimate goal is soil for plants. I dont have space for a greenhouse, im in a townhome.
