Spawned the colonized wheat berries to supplemented sawdust this morning. Man that shit is a bitch to get out of the jars! Tried hitting on my hand, with very limited success and the fear of breakage. Then went to hitting it on a phone book, with no real success. Finally drowned a butter knife in alcohol, and then sprayed it with Lysol, then wipe it back down with alcohol. Used that to break it up. I suppose I got all kinds of contams doing that, but I couldn't get it any other way. Threw the spawn in the bag, and used a zip tie to close.
I used: 3 lbs of hardwood fuel pellets 4 oz of wheat bran 1 heaping tsp of gypsum 10 1/2 cups water 12 oz spawn
PC'd for 90 min at 14 psi.
Wish me luck. Can't be any worse than when I was doing lipa tek, without sterilizing. I just hope it colonizes the wood as fast as the grain. Crazy fast!

Next time take 2-3 tablespoons and wrap them in foil and PC with your jars or bags. If you rubbed the alcohol down good with a clean paper towel you should be ok. I like using individually packaged alcohol swabs to wipe down smaller sterile stuff then i usually do a 10% bleach solution and leave it wet. Good luck!

Here is the beginning of colonization. I hope it goes well. I still have 2 lbs of spawn growing on rye berries from Out-grow, but these were the wheat berries I made up with LC.

Doing pretty well. A little metabolites, but not bad. A fair amount of condensation in the bag, but still colonizing well. This is 6 days in.

I have pins forming, and will get some pics as soon as they are a bit larger. I don't want to try to lift it out of the SGFC just for pics.

I wouldn't get too excited. As I stated earlier in the thread, all the vendors that I have seen are selling a Pleurotus as a Hypsizygus. I haven't had enough coffee to start making my "mycological rounds" this morning yet, but I'll check in just a few moments to see what my little bumps are turning into. The picture that Out-grow uses to advertise this LC is obviously Hypsizygus, so if that's not what it turns out to be, I will be having a talk with them.

AND THE VERDICT IS..................I dunno. Still to small to tell. But, If I had to bet a paycheck on it, I'm gonna say it's a Pleurotus. Just because of the massive pinning. Any elm oysters I have seen in the wild only have maybe 2-4 fruits coming out of the same spot. They are pinning really well, but growing a little slower, because I have the temps at 55-60 for my kings in the same room.

Nope. Not Hypsizygus. Looks like any other pinning Pleurotus I've seen. I shall be having a talk with Out-grow soon. Not so much about how this is NOT Hypsizygus, but how their picture of the product shows an entirely different mushroom. After they get a bit bigger, I will post some pics.

There was a member here a few years ago that supposedly had the true species. I cant recall who though. Hunt him down?

I have the variety from Hacenadao. So far no pins on all 6 logs. I just now moved them back into my house for a warm shock to hopefully induce fruiting.

Previous shitty reply deleted. You're not worth being irritated about. You obviously are truly skilled at mycology, and you're good at what you do, but man, you can be a dick sometimes.

i'm not that great but thanks
i just thought it was common knowledge that almost no one has "the real elm oyster". most hobby culture sites are run by people that don't know, or don't care. and the super shiity part is that some of them have never even grown out their strains, so they could be selling you something that won't fruit!
