Incubation advice

So I am setting myself up for a rye cultivation, I've got the container I want to use, and a thermostat to turn a bulb on and off. What I am curious about is how best/ and when to humidify. do I humidify the substrate as its initially growing? or afterwards? or both? I've been accumulating the best points of several rye teks, but just need a little more assistance. If you guys could help I'd be most grateful!

Take a step back you're getting ahead of yourself, once you have inoculated your jars just leave them on a shelf at room temp if your room is like most around 70-75, leqave the jars the way they are until they are fully colonized, this gives you two weeks to post more questions after reading up on some bulk teks(plenty sticked right now)

Yeah I am just getting a little anxious. I've spent the last week assembling and secure my shit for inoculation. My biggest concern really is making sure I keep everything sterile. I just don't know if I can put perlite into the incubator as oppose to having to hook a humidifier up.

It stays around 60°F in my pad, I haven't had the need to incubate anything yet...yeah the myc is creeping slowly, but not to the point of concern... You don't humidify your colonizing jars anyway.

I'm in WA so the temp is starting to drop, of course I'm enjoying all these beautiful cyans! I was under the impression that keep a handle on the temp and its range will help to expedite the process

Incubators are out dated bro. Just like cronic said, put them on a shelf at room temp and forget about them for a couple of weeks. I don't understand why you need a humidifier or perlite at all during colonization. You literally nocc em up and then set them on a shelf. That's it. Look up damion5050's elementary coir tek also. It's super easy and works every time.

I'm right near you, and it's fine without incubating... The closest I have come to incubation is putting my jars in my cabinet above the fridge... Don't overcomplicate the process bro... How cold does the inside of your house get?

well its no so much that I NEED to, I would just like to develop my mycology skill as I am an avid cultivator of different "herbs", I enjoy the process and was hoping to harvest fruits in an 8-10 wk period

No problem... Just put them on a shelf though...no incubation unless your pad stays at a constant 50°F or less...

If this is true you will go far in this hobby.
Are you sure you're not referring to 'incubator' when you really mean 'fruiting chamber' ?
Incubators heat jars while the spores germinate and the mycelium colonizes.
Fruiting chambers are for putting fully colonized cakes of brown rice flour or "spawn" ("spawn" refers to fully colonized jars of grain) into conditions which encourage the fully colonized mycelium to fruit.

thank you, thats what I am trying to delineate. So a bulb on a thermo will be for the rye as it germinates and I occasionally shake up the jars, then when I've made the transfer into trays for fruiting I need to keep humidity and temp controlled?

Yes...but only shake after like 30% then again before you spawn to bulk.

Incubation is absolutely not necessary. Temperatures from 65 - 80 will be fine for colonization. If you need to heat them then heat the room, not the jars. Shoot for 75 when it comes to heating the room. The jars are always hotter inside and don't need any extra help. Contams thrive above 80.
