Hey all,
After much talk, two of us over here in New Zealand have finally got to work on developing our own Oyster spawn. We have detailed some of our work on our blog.
http://teharore.wordpress.com/
We will continue the process and keep posting what we learn as we go.
If there are any tips for us out there we would be happy to hear them. As well, if others are looking to get started we are more than happy to share what we have learned. We initially had started building a 'lab' in our garage but it seems more a catchment for bacteria than something that would be sterile! So we do things in the living room via the glove box. Enjoy!

Bravo keep it coming .......
Might I ask that you post your progress in duplicate here. And please update often.
Now for better results pour you plates in your glove box. Next I might give a tip if you are in a cold climate. I have been incubating " if you want to call it that" in the fridge . I grow a type that likes the cold and I could get away with open air pours and transfers but it's slow which if fine for me.
I notice that the con tams I get grow extremely slow compared to the oyster and are eventually overtaken with no sign of return. Even with open air spawning of laundry baskets. It's just so cool were I live.
Good luck hope to see an update soon

Thanks for the info. We've put together an update here as we have transfered some successful petri dishes to a rye medium;

Will be sure to pour our agar covered from now on
We're a bit surprised we haven't had a huge setback yet, though I guess there is plenty of time.

It only takes one 5mm square of agar per jar. One dish should be enough for 20-30 jars if you can wait for colonization. Do you only have holes punched in your lids with no filter? If so you need either polyfill, ez felt, or synthetic filter discs to remove airborne contaminates. Also you are only using gypsum at .5% you should use closer to 10-15g per jar.
