When should I consider Re Inoculating?
    #22485559 - 11/06/15 11:05 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Hello all, I have knocked up 24 1/2 pint jars on 10/30/15 around 9 pm. Then knocked up 3 huge jars on 11/4/15 At about 5 am. Fairly amateur, So far I have grown 7 times or so my most recently some oysters and all I did was order petri dishes and cut out the wedges onto top of brf in jars in my home made glove box. When using MS I usually see signs in 3-5 days of go time. Currently well into day 7 and nothing at all. Last time something like this happened to me I waited about 16 days to see signs in only 1 jar in 1 inoculation spot and ultimately grew that out and started from scratch. Sooo... Knowing my understanding of how things work how long would you give this non life producing sideshow?

Jars were cool to touch

Sterile procedure was on point (Like Totally) Lol

Temps 79 in day time as low as 62 in evening. (Recently made makeshift heater)

Spores said to be about a year old

Jars were not necessarily packed but they were filled rather generously

I wouldn't re-inoculate anything ever without re-sterilizing and at that point you may as well start over so you don't mess up moisture content.

Understood so basically at a cross between risk the possibility of all my jars starting tomorrow and throwing it out the window today for something more fruitful and vice versa on waiting forever and having new jars done today.

Yeah got a big ol bag of verm so no worries on being able to just whip out another 24. Maybe pack them lighter this time.

wait and see. 79F might be slightly hot, as myc generates its own heat the internal temp is probably closer to 83, which is on the high end for myc.

Give it at least another week before doing anything. Everything slows down in the fall, assuming you are in the northern hemisphere

Thats a lot of jars to shoot up.

How much spores did u use altogether?

using just a little spores per jar makes it a lot slower as two spores have to "mate" in the same area.

Could be conditions arent perfect in the jars, like too wet for example.

Most  people do not heat their homes/living spaces to 70F in the fall. Its just so expensive to heat a home/living space to that temp all the time.

Most homes i would say are in the 60Fs to save money and its more practical.

And 60-69F is colder than normal, but pretty nice for the ps cyan species.

Im on the west coast and the room there in is in the sun all day

The print was rather small. I only put about 1/4 of a cc in each jar. When I first started growing I knocked up 24 jars with 2 ccs hehee 3 days healthy growth.

Welp.. Inoculated 16 new jars yesterday with a new print this time didn't try to force as much substrate in jars as the first batch. I will keep you guys updated on germination.

That couldve been your problem in the first place you never want to pack/force your pf sub and Ive had spores tak 2 weeks to germinate so id keep the other jars around for awhile

Yeah the other jars were definitely too wet. I'm fairly certain it was because I tried to pack them with more sub than I should have.

I did save some of the dryer/better looking ones just out of curiosity when discarding them. Also there was def some bacterial contamination going on from excess moisture and probably a little too high temps as Ben17 pointed out. Witch once I noticed while throwing first one out didnt make me feel so bad about my thoughts on starting over too early. Going to keep this run on the cooler end of things. Also got another print on the way so we will have some more fun when that arrives.

Keep on making jars until the universe gives me what I need and more hehee

But yeah I warned you im fairly noobish hehee. Wish me luck  and thanks for taking interest in my ventures.

Ok. So signs of life were seen today on a completely separate start up from another print source done on the 17th. 8 jars made and several have some mycelium starting to take hold already.

Made 7 more jars today 4 of them being big and will inoculate in morning, also made another syringe for remaining 14 or so that I will be emptying cleaning and using tomorrow.

If those jars have lids and a dry verm barrier you should take that tin foil off and let your mycelium breathe.

Fo sho thanks guys  Yeah I decided to leave out the vermiculite barrier this time. It was not based on logic, seems every grow I tried with verm barrier in past failed. Most likely in hindsight because of old spores or lack of hydration time. Whatevz I fulfilled my own ridiculous conspiracy.

As long as it works I'm happy lol

Little bit of a thread hijack, but since you mentioned you have dropped agar on top of brf jars for oysters before...

Did it seem to you like it took them *forever* to colonize?  And look like the myc spread across the top and around before digging down through the cake?
