Lib ID
#22484013 - 11/05/15 11:49 PM (8 years, 2 months ago) |

Habitat: Pasture...right on the margin of a clump of sedge grass
I am nearly certain these were libs. I found three altogether. They were very short and had become umbonate. Nipple was not that obvious but it was there, not sure if you can tell from the picture. Spores were classic Psilocybe purple. Hygrophanous. No bruising.

No indeed. Conocybe, with the spores decidedly not purple at all?

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

What makes you say that? I have seen sombrero like caps on libs quite a few times. What color do you expect the print to be? Brown? The print is side by side with cyanescen prints and they look almost identical. Idk....I guess I will have to go out and get some fresh specimens and remember to check for a pellicle this time. I thought these were no brainers. The nipple was slight but it was there. Hard to tell in the photos because the cap is broken.

They could be a Psilocybe. That first picture is extremely uncharacteristic, except to say that it looks like a Conocybe, but then ruling that out is as simple as you being sure the spores were indeed purple.
When fresh and well moist, was the texture rubbery, was the cap surface slippery and covered by a thin, translucent removable pellicle? Something between gelatin and soft contact lens.
When fresh is the stipe pliant, such that you could wrap it around your finger?
Do few to all specimens show blue bruising, particularly in the base of the stipes as they begin to dry out?
You don't have to convince us, you just have to not be mistaken. If you are correct, it doesn't matter what we think.

Definitely not a Psilocybe you got there. It looks like a Tubaria sp. Print should be a relatively light brown.
