Being fair on one's self
    #22483873 - 11/05/15 11:14 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Self esteem is defined as the attitude towards the self. Or something.

My attitude towards myself has been to use myself as some kind of slave to ambition, huge ambition, like grandiose basically, thinking I can be the best at this, the best at that. Kind of comes across as egotistical in some cases.

I have come to realise this really messes me around. It's great to think one has potential, but one must also acknowledge one's limitations.

It has caused a lot of anxiety, depression, negative thinking...

Now I realise I need to have the attitude towards myself of fairness... I need to be fair on myself.

Is it just a case of a sudden attitude change and sort of 'catching' the grandiose stuff when it occurs?

Basic changing of the will and then gradual rewiring of the brain?

Or should I see someone?

How to facilitate being realistic in thinking and being fair on oneself?

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

These grandiose ambitions are negative because you feel bad when you fail to reach them?

If this is true, I understand very well and have been there. I like to not measure my success in terms of getting things done, but rather by not slacking off. The key is to simply stay productive, in any way that promotes your various goals. Instead of trying to make sure such and such gets done, just make sure you are using the time you have, and it will eventually get done. Quit anticipating having the goals done.

Hope that was helpful.
