Interesting video. Certainly that's the beginning of the conversation, as there is much more to say on this topic.

Certainly. I just thought that the role of luck in our success or failure was particularly relevant with regard to "hard working" wealthy people and "lazy" poor people

Of course. I agree.

Standard of living IS about wealth. I'm not sure what makes you think we have a higher standard of living given that we have less wealth and more poverty.

Ok, now I understand why you are confused. Your link showed two quality of life rankings. One for overall quality of life (the US didn't make the top 10), and one for the top quintile (top 20%), where the US came in 4th. So the rich people in the US are doing well. No surprise there.

STOP THE STRAW MAN ARGUMENTS! You're INCREDIBLY ignorant, and extremely wrong.

Integrity? Really? Intellectual prowess of a world-renowned neurosurgeon?
Yes, integrity. I'm calling Ben Carson a liar. He's too educated to believe the garbage coming out of his mouth, and he is pandering to the party of stupid.
Hillary is a way bigger liar. Bernie thinks that he will make public college free, and provide social security for everyone. Bernie is too educated to believe those insane ideals would fly in a general election.

Webster10 said: It's a sad reality that a large amount of the US population choose not to aspire to anything and scrape by more often than not with government assistance. Choking the economy just so everyone can get a small but equal piece of the pie rather IMO isn't favorable to just let the hard-working be richer and the slackers to be poorer. I'd rather make $100,000 and at least get to have the purchasing power of $75,000. Instead of being able to buy one car, I can now purchase multiple cars for my family members and perhaps even a nice boat for family time on weekends. Working your ass off to be able to live a life of abundance instead of earning a low wage regardless of how hard you work is a major advantage of capitalism. Socialism is essentially allowing the government to choose how to spend your money for you. Boo.
So, your argument is that poor people are poor because they are lazy, and wealth people are wealthy because they work so very hard? I just want to get that straight before I demolish that silly claim.
For the most part, yes. However, I do concede that some of the rich merely inherited wealth and did nothing themselves to build their fortune. But yes, for the most part, the poor are poor because they don't want to work.
That was really the secondart point I was trying to make. The main point is that the tax rates in a socialist society are absolutely asinine. Socialism lets the government decide how to spend most of your money for you. You don't see a problem with that?

It is because the cost of living is so much higher with respect to the salary those people earn in those country. Lots of Japanese don't even own a car.
You are a knucklehead if you think the standard of living is higher in Japan or especially Tawain. LOL, I've been to both of those countries.
You know my girlfriend, who lived near Misawa Japan, her parents had a wooden house in a little town called Kamikita. and like everyone else in that little town and all the other rural areas across Japan, she had to go to the public bath house, down the street from here house to clean up each day.
Here is something else to ponder in most countries, if you have a big screen TV, a car, and a cell phone, you are considered to be 'living in poverty'

Lol... I intend to come back to this silly statement when I have the time, soon. It's about the stupidest thing a person can say in this day and age, and the evidence against this assertion is monumental.

I travel to Tokyo all the time, and I've never seen the kind of poverty that I see here in the US. Maybe people aren't as well off outside the big city, but that's the case in the US as well. You are from New Mexico; you should know how dirt poor people most people are outside the big cities there.
As for people not owning a car, it's because the public transportation in Japan is outstanding, not because they are too poor to own a car. Did you know that 56% of households in New York City are car free? Does that mean New York City is a poor city? No, it's one of the most expensive cities in the US. It means they have good public transportation and people don't need to own a car, giving them even MORE disposable income.

You are a knucklehead if you ignore the fact that the median person is wealthier there.
