No Activity at all?

Im a newbie, so i have a question. Now i read and read and read before i attempted this grow, and i thought i was knowlegable in this but i guess not.Heres my problem: On January 9th i innoculated 2 PF jars with 4 CCs each of Mazapatec. On January 10 I innoculated 2 more PF jars with EQ On january 14th I innoculated 2 Rye grain jars with GT I have them incubating at around 85 degrees. Still i see absolutly no growth at all! No sign of contaminants either but shouldnt i see SOMETHING in at least 1 jar by now?The first 2 jars are 8 days old. I followed the PF tek to the letter. I just dont understand it. Should i try and reinnoculate? Could the spore syringes be bad? Any advice is appreciated.

i had the same problems, if you didn't buy from a spore vendor listed on this site i would suggest going through a reputable vendor.

Yeah, who sells you the spores is a BIG deal. Reputable vendors are a MUST, just as important as sterile conditions while innoculating. 85 degrees did you say? That could be your problem right there. Inside the jars, it's ALWAYS a few degrees warmer than the outside environment....so when incubating, you have to adjust for that. So you cranked it up to 85, and it could be like 87 to 89 in the jars which isn't very good for spores OR mycellium. Furthermore, all that dry heat could dry the water content of the jars, making a frugal moisture enviromnent that mycellium and spores need to grow and develop into nice big trippy mushies, thus explaining why you see no growth. Try incubating at like 80 or 81, and you shouldnt get hurt.

yea check your temps, i've got an air thermometer and a thermometer inside a jar of water so i can kinda compare, usually my thermometer in the jar is about 2 or 3 degrees warmer, so i'd concur with guido and try lowering your thermostat.

It took me over 1.5 weeks to noytice mycelium in my first pf jars too, they start one of these days, dont look at them for a few days...

how long after you steamd or pressure cooked the jars did you inject the spores?

I waited around 4 hours with my jars and they where fine it took me 2 weeks to c growth, they where slow at first and growth has always been slow, but it was because of my temp. you should be fine just be patient, they will come around

Definitly watch your incubating temp..inbetween 80 and 84 degrees
Check out your syringe...if you could see little purple spores in the syringe..it probably was a pretty good syringe..
I just got a pressure cooker..and it does wonders on jars.
Id also learn how to do wbs and millet...they are ten times faster the BRF/vermiculite...hope i could help

just a side question, i thought you could leave pf jars incubating at roughly 85-86 degrees and get optimal growth. i know the mycellium produces heat and many people say to keep it around 82-83, but i also see a lot of people who will incubate at 86? I know mine have been sitting at around 86, no higher then 87 and no lower then 84, and after 10 days 1/2 the jar is colonized... dont know what happened with the other half, 2 of the 4 holes i innoculated i supposed didnt germinate, ah well... anyways, so is 86 an alright temp? opinions?

Well finnally today i think i see signs of mycellium. They are very small(about the size if a small nail head, but little white fluffy spots.1 in each.I was thinking maybe its going so slow because i only used 1 innoculation point?I still used more than enough spore solution, but only used 1 hole to lower my chance for contams. But anyway at least i finnally see something no matter how small, hopefully they speed up a little now. thanx all i guess this is definatly a patience game.

try to put it at temps of 85 degrees and you really want four or five innoc. points cause it will take forever to colinize with only one. Good luck

mine took like 12 days for the first sign of growth.. but i wasn't letting much air get to them and my temp was too low..
make sure u take the tape off if your chamber is in a draft free area and make sure ur temps get to about 85 degrees..
just dont give up... also you may have used too much water on your substrate, this causes growth to slow as well
btw i just read your post.. your problem is obviously you only used 1 innoc point.. you want your spores evenly around the jar so all sides can grow at once making it faster..
