Mushroom ID please.

So it's been about fifteen years since I have picked and these don't look exactly how I remember. They were found in a open cow pasture growing directly of the patties or next to them. The stems are on average 4-5" tall but some are as tall as 7" the stems are not hollow and I don't see any bruising when I pinch the stem. Also I remember there being a little ring around the ones I used to pick but I am over 100 miles from the old fields I frequented.

So I copied the name you provided and looked it up and it looks like they are non active. Damn while I was driving around today I started looking around the fields in my area and they are all over the place. Thought I was going to have easy picking tonight.

So yeah, it sounds like you're looking in the right place for your area. Actives will grow in Texas in the same habitat as P. antillarum.

Well that's at least encouraging. Several trips now to fields further south of me and no such luck. Thanks for all the help. This site really is nice to have its a wonder I didn't kill myself back in my younger days. There was no internet to double check yourself. We were just told head to the pastures after a rain and grab the ones that grow out of the pies. Ha ha dumb luck.

Yes, if only we'd had fast Internet and a deluge of great sites back when I had to do my homework! I remember when if you wanted to know something, you went to the library, and even then there was no one to confirm if you'd understood it correctly.
Not that I'm so old, but a lot has changed, even in the last decade.

Yeah but they truly were more limited. Fewer users, info was harder to find (search engines were insanely laughable and you often had to use more than one of them). It really was a different time and age, even by 2000.

In 94 when I first picked I am fairly certain that nobody I knew had internet service. About the only thing you used a computer for was to play wolfenstein 3D and to print papers that you typed up. Even then the printer took about a hour to print 5 pages with the printer head doing multiple passes to print one line. Then you had to deal with pulling the perforations of the side without ripping the paper. Does that make me old?

Ha ha. So I just went back out there and found this. A different type for sure has the little ring around the stem the gills have a interesting set of smaller gills around the very outside of the cap.

Round three, lets see if I got it right this time, I feel confident I did. I'm not to sure about the three in the last photo they look slightly different. The gills are a lighter color and the cap has more of a cone shape than the others. Once again thanks for the help.
