Lophophore williamsii or possible look alike?
    #22475076 - 11/04/15 09:07 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

I found this cacti in a plants shop. Is it Lophophore williamsii or could it be something else?

Cheers,

Looks like it to me. It's got the distinct shape and the 5 grooved star-shape. But I'm no expert.

It is a Lophophora, and quite possibly L. williamsii. It's surprising they show up on plants shop, though.

I have actually seen them in my local garden centre - labelled Peyote - for just a couple of Euros.
Looks very like L. williamsii - and although I have 40 of them on my roof, I would want to see a flower to be TOTALLY certain.

Maybe some mod or whatever might think this has now been long enough.

Looks like a Lopho' to me. When it blooms, it will be easier to determine what variety it might be. My urge, is to say Caespotia, because of all the pups in the pot, but I might be wrong.

It is lophophora williamsii var. caespitosa in my opinion. Caespitosa just means many headed and shows up in many cacti species. Of course a flower would be definitive. Also many lophophora are sold in shops. Not all countries outlaw the plant.

Sorry I have been away. Ill try to come back often.

I would be very surprised if that turned out to be anything other than L.w. var. caespitosa.  As they've said, flowers would settle it once and for all, but IMO you can be satisfied that it's a willamsii.
