Innoculating gallon jar with agar

Hey all
Any problems just slicing up a plate and dropping the wedges into a gallon jar of spawn, instead of G2G?
Have some of these, and nice big plastic autoclavable lids that I bought one time by accident.
A gallon of spawn is enough for one of my tubs, I might as well use these and if I can get away w A2G all the better
Thanks

Well that's what Im saying lately Ive just been going A2G, one plate to 4 or 5 quarts. Using this for my main grows while I practice getting my G2G innoculations better
But its even less exposure if its cool to inoculate these gallon jars via agar, pull the jar out of sterilizer in front of the hood, drop agar in, boom....

I had really good success with gallon bags, did lots of these.
Gallon jars would stall out a lot. Looking back I think it was lack of fae.

Yea I use 5 to 6 quarts in spawn bags all the time but I G2G into those.
You wouldn't have any FAE in a jar, just Gas exchange through the filter. That's the only thing I wanna make sure before I give them a go , that they don't stall out or something from just wedge innoculations. I use half gallons sometimes and those work just fine

I think GE is what he meant. And it makes sense a gallon jar would have more difficulty exchanging gas than a smaller jar. Just think of how much obsticales are in the way for the gas to go from the bottom to the top. Maybe one needs to shake it more often? I dunno I haven't gone bigger than quart so far and I have a feeling I wont go bigger anytime soon. Bought 130 euro worth of jars and only realised I bought pints when they arrived. Was so pissed. But I guess I can still work with pints for grains so no more spending now. Im broke as broke gets

Lots of people colonize gallon jars on their side. It makes it much easier for the bottom to get GE. Just throwing that out there.

If you shake the piss out of it I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work... if it ever didn't work, it was probably due to not pressure cooking long enough, or some pansy ass myc.

I guess it's because the hole is in the middle, as well as within the grains. It also helps if you don't pound the jar down hardcore lol.

Ohh I just understood the first post. Yea that makes sense. More surface area and less distance from top to bottom.

Just tilt the jar or completely lying down the jar on their side works. Vertical colonization is just not good with gallon jars.

Oh nice, yeah they were not on their sides. I PC'ed for 90 mins, that may have also not been enough.
I was looking back through some or my old notes.
ALT#7 actually worked very well like this.
75% (3 outta 4) of cube jars worked, but were very slow at the end. Bags were like 2 weeks and the jars look like they were more like a month or so.
I was really into bags at the time also. So I wasn't giving them much attention.

General consensus is 90 minutes in general isn't long enough for grains. I do 2hours minimum with grains.
Isn't it funny when you hear how we get skewed views of things because we didn't do it correctly?
