Wow, this is an incredible read. You definitely grasp the main themes that are associated with the psychedelic state and seamlessly incorporated them into a story about the PCT. What an amazing accomplishment to not only complete the hike, but to write about it too.
I sincerely believe this story will bring joy to many people, your writing is so clean.
I googled all those spots and the pictures are beautiful, but I enjoyed the writing more.

Hello Everyone,

I know that this is bringing back an old thread, but I wanted to update those of you who are interested.

I have been working, working, and working on getting a final draft of the book, which is unfortunately a lot more work than I was hoping it would turn out to be, but i am still very hopeful that the final product will be within what I set out to create.

Anyways, I'm writing this post to let those of you who care know that next spring I'll be heading back out to the trail. This time I will be walking a 3,100 mile walk and I expect it to take 5-6 months. Rather than bringing mushrooms and DMT I plan to bring a healthy supply of LSD and treat the hike much like I did this last one.

I have however considered working with LSD microdosing a bit more on this hike. I'm more than happy to hear y'all's opinions on doing this, and as with my last trip, I'll be posting the story of it once the hike is done.

Love you all tremendously. Stay trippy.

Sounds awesome man! On your 3100 mile walk, I think it'd be really interesting if you kept some sort of journal or log along the way. Just you recanting from memory the last one was superb.

First off, thank you @TheScientificMethod for reviving this old thread so I could see it and read it, which took me 3 hours

Secondly, you're story is inspiring on magnitudinal levels (I doubt that's a word but I'm sure you get what I mean). Reading this has sparked curiosity in me and I'm pondering the idea of doing something like this.

Thirdly, I would buy that book in a heartbeat. Do you know what you're going to title it yet? Maybe "Walking 2,650 Miles on Psychedelics"? haha

Thank you for blessing Shroomery with these writings. Peace :mushroom2:

let me chime in on what a good pre-book read this is

Not being a writer I have no tips. but a comic book series might work.

It might work better if you're microdosing, but I have one thing to say, good luck!  I haven't read your original post yet, and I would have alot of joint/back troubles walking 2500+ miles in general.  We may be a different breed.  The lsd though, would destroy me!  In contrary to shrooms and dmt, lsd makes my back and joints feel brittle or something, when coming down, and afterwards.  I have ran into a bunch of issues with my already jacked up back, from taking lsd, and not stretching/exercising correctly before and after.  It also seems like a bad idea to workout after lsd, unless you are doing muscular endurance exercises to help your supporting muscles hold you together.  One time I did a bunch of planks and stuff (muscular endurance exercises) on the comeup with my buddy though, and  it screwed our backs up later in the trip.

Thanks for reading through it ShroomyHead! I really appreciate that.
I have been working with the title "In Saner Days" or "Insaner Daze" (not sure which, or how I'd work it), but that may change once I get a more finalized draft.

As for considering it yourself, I HIGHLY (no pun intended) recommend your doing so.  It absolutely changed my perspective on life. Sure you could get the same perspective shift from dropping acid all summer long (as I have and also recommend), but the change that comes about through spending that much time out in nature and really getting introspective really affected me in a way that is hard to describe. If you EVER have the opportunity, then you must take advantage of it!

Thanks again for reading!

I wonder if what you've been taking is actually acid??? I have had a lot of experience mixing LSD with extreme physical exertion and have found no problem with it at all. Once this past February I ran a 42 miles in a single day while tripping on acid. If anything I found that the acid made the running easier--it gives me almost an amphetamine buzz that is quite hard to beat.

And I've never had any issues with my back or joints from taking true acid, and I have done it a lot, a lot. I wonder if it is your body's reaction to the drug or if you were possibly working with something that wasn't actually LSD?

No it's definitely lsd, I can assure that.  It may be me in particular.  I also have alot of back problems.  It makes my muscles feel tight though, and I've heard other users report similar effects.  My back in general feels brittle towards the end of my trip.  Most of these effects are noticable during and after the comedown for me.

I've heard other people report that, but i've never experienced it personally. I guess each of us process the molecule differently.

So maybe it's weird to bring back an old post like this, but I wanted to update.

I still haven't written a book about this journey... or I have, but it's about 3,500 pages long, and that's not really the goal. I still plan on doing so, buuuuuut.....

I'm pleased to let you all know that I'm headed back out on a 500 mile trail in Colorado starting in three weeks. I plan on doing basically the same that I did on the PCT, except I won't be bringing weed (long story on why, but not worth mentioning here). I will however be bringing a lot of mushrooms and plan to use them far more often than I did on the PCT.

I went out and watched the solar eclipse last year in Grand Teton National Park and then spent the next 5 days there and in Yellowstone tripping, and I suspect this is kind of what I'll be doing in Colorado. I don't know that I'll trip every day, but I suspect that every 2-3 days I will be. I think I'll be bringing about 2oz for personal use.

There will be many stories to tell, and there already are, but I am extremely excited for the trip and will keep you all posted on the journey upon return. I plan on writing another long trip report about it.

Also, if any of you are in Denver, that's where I'll be ending the hike if you're interested in getting together for tea or coffee afterwords. It'll be towards the end of August. I'd love to share the stories. Regardless, after the hike I'll be sharing it with you all on here.

And I do have plans to hike the CDT next year in a similar fashion, but life got in the way this year so I had to postpone that one until 2019.

I hope life has been treating you all well.

Love,

TheScientificMethod

Yes please, keep us posted! You linked me to this thread on another thread recently and I thank you for doing so. I did actually read the whole thing. It was a seriously good read and has made me feel inspired to do a similar thing someday in Australia. I wish you luck with your book and I hope you do finish it someday. I will buy it if I hear about it. Have you given any thought to including mescaline on your journey? I feel that mild doses of mescaline would be very conductive to hiking.

Something I am thinking of and I admit it is nothing more than a pipe dream at this point is hiking some of the aboriginal trails in Australia. In particular, if you read this thread:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24612321

and there is an old radio interview here:

http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/archived/hindsight/along-the-pituri-trail/3259026

It is a thread about the aboriginal entheogen "Pituri" that was sacred and traded across the continent. There were trade trails for this substance that are countless thousands of years old. As a side note, I was told by someone I know that he met a man whilst mushroom hunting deep in the bush in South Australia (Deep Creek Conservation Park) that reckons that a certain kind of tree bark was collected in this bush by the aboriginals and traded all the way across the continent to the North coast of Australia and from there was traded with indonesian traders. I believe that this was DMT in this case. It is here-say though so take it for what its worth.

Pituri is a different substance again. Either way, it makes me think. How cool would it be to trek these ancient entheogen trading trails, while using native entheogen's. DMT from acacia bark, Psilocybe Subaeruginosa mushrooms. It would be not without its problems as these trails would require research to find and probably cross private property today. They are also not official trails and would be unmarked and broken by modern development They would also be in parts going across some of the most remote wilderness on the planet. Still, it would be an adventure to say the least. For now a pipe dream but thank you again, your writeup was inspiring!
