substrate experimentation
    #2247082 - 01/16/04 10:14 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I'm going to be foolin around with some new substrates, and i went to my favorite store in the world today, whole foods, and got some different grains and shit. I picked up some millet and popcorn and was wondering if anyone had ever done any mixing of the two. In any case I have these ingredients available at the moment: rye berries, popcorn, millet, and whole brown rice. I was also thinking of throwing some brown rice in my blender and then mixing it in with some vermiculate. So i guess my question is what success have you had with popcorn and millet, and do you think grinding my own brf and making cakes would work well? has anyone ever worked with whole brown rice before? i'm mainly interested in the millet recipe, should i soak it or what, and what should i mix it with. AGHHH maybe i should just mix them all together and see what happens haha.

I have never tried mixing millet and popcon.

both on thier own kick ass if you have a pc and know what your doing.

You can grind br, millet, rye, and god knows what else into flour for use in the pf tek. the good thing about this is that jars can be steamed if you don't have a pc.

Look in the FAQs about millet and popcorn, thats all you gotta know.

Millet is the best, hands down. As long as you can get the moisture content right and have a pc...you can't go wrong

i'm cookin up some millet now, what rule should i go by to determine when the grain has absorbed enough water. does it get soggy, do the grains pop, how much should it expand in volume, things of that nature.
