Yellow/Orange Stuff on BRF Cake - HELP!
    #22470593 - 11/03/15 11:29 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

First grow. This jar was fully colonized and consolidated for a full week. It was fine yesterday. Today, I pick it up to birth and it looks like this. Is it bacteria? Trich?

Since it had consolidated, I took the lid off outside in case it was contaminated and gave it a smell. Smelled like mushrooms - no sour or vinegar or "off" smell.

At first I thought it was baby pins but when I looked closer it didn't look right. I fucked up by using a heating pad directly under some cakes the other night and they're all full of moisture now and stalling out.

I originally ordered pre-made cakes (I know I know, don't flame me) because I was afraid of getting contams on my first grow and I'm guessing they were already too moist before I added the heat.

I'm afraid this is going to happen to the rest of my jars too, but they aren't done colonizing. What should I do? Any way to get rid of the moisture, like sterilizing a needle tip and sucking out some of the excess?

I'm at a loss and don't know what to do since I've never done this before. Please help :frown:

its most likely metabolites something the mycelium gives off take them out to fruit and when ur washing them it should come right off

Probably metabolites. Usually from fighting or too hot of temperatures (75-79) is best. 81+ too hot.

Thanks, it accidentally got up to 82 before I realized. They were all growing great before that. Now the growth on the rest is so slow and stunted. Hopefully I haven't permanently wrecked them and they will end up fully colonizing.

Thanks man, that was the only jar that had the orange stuff- I just washed it off and birthed it. The rest have no visible metabolites, but are growing incredibly slow when they were growing super fast a week ago. Here's to hoping.
