Anyone ever feed their kitty salvia?
#22470375 - 11/03/15 10:30 AM (8 years, 2 months ago) |
|

Mine is always chewing on the leaves she finds. It kinda chills her out. I need to give her a good bath so I was thinking of tightly rolling up several leaves with a couple rubber bands for her to gnaw on first.
If a little chills her out a little, a lot will chill her out a lot I'm hoping!
I know I got super violent and scared on salvia once so I wanted to see if folks have tried this before and how it worked out.
Thanks

yeah honestly dont let your cat just feast on it. not saying I know what will happen, to me it just doesn't sound like a good idea for their little kitty minds.

Yeah, I'm not stoked about drugging her but she is particularly athletic and it's hard to bathe her without getting fucked up.

I get my cat high on weed that seems to work just fine. I wouldn't give my cat much more than weed or catnip personally. Sounds like a bad idea IMO but I have no idea what would happen. The only salvia I've ever tried was some synthetic bs when I was 15 and I sure as hell wouldn't give my cat any of that. I'd assume organic salvia is much different though...still sounds like a bad idea tho.

OP if you want to give your cat a bath and guarantee it won't move, just grab a light hold of its scruff and it will deactivate your cat. It won't move at all.

What do you want to bathe your cat? My cats are clean and soft because they bathe themselves.
Is it an outdoor cat?
Also, I don't like holding their scruff either. Only time that happens is at the Vet, I dont want them relating a vet visit to me grabbing them

If I remember correctly, it "deactivates" the cat because that's how their mother picked them up as kittens. I agree, holding it by the neck seems cruel but you can find a way to do it that's actually comfortable for the cat that makes the cat associate the memory with it's mother picking it up rather than a trip to the vet

She eats it on her own. On purpose. To get high.
I was just considering fixing her up a chewing toy that would be stronger than what she normally eats to get through the bath unscathed.
She's honestly looking fine now so I'm going to skip the third bath.

I think you may want to reexamine your theory, because the above premise may be very wrong. And imagine for a moment what that might look like.
Not sure if you've ever played around with threshold doses of salvia, but I have. It is interesting that way, and can have a bit of a mellowing effect. I've only taken high/full dose salvia a handful of times, largely because I find the experience to be completely terrifying, and without a lot of personal value beyond novelty. But threshold doses I have sometimes enjoyed. Very different experience.
I once saw a video that was supposedly of a cat on LSD. Poor thing looked like it was freaking out. It was heartbreaking.
I'd urge caution with this one. If the cat freaks out, how will it behave? How will you deal with that? Just a thought.
Quote:
Matt87 said: I know I got super violent and scared on salvia once
And you're a human being, who was in control of himself, made a conscious choice to have that experience, and knew exactly what was happening to you. Not sure how similarly to humans salvia affects cats, but if it is similar, this could go bad. Also keep in mind that oral / sublingual ingestion lasts LONGER than the short trip you get from smoking. So if it gets ugly, you could be dealing with a terrified cat for a while. Again, that's assuming it affects them similarly.
I'd personally keep doses low, if anything.

My brother's, girlfriend's cat was a pothead. Snobby as shit but as soon as the smoke hit the air it would sit there and stare at you. So of course we blew it hits and then it would shake it off like it was wet and go sit in the corner for about 15 minutes. Then it would eat and disappear. Every night.

You gotta blow the smoke straight into it's ear. Works with dogs too.

You are not a mother cat, and kittens only have that instinct for the first weeks/months of their life. The cat probably doesn't move because it is being suspended by it's skin, which is uncomfortable and dangerous to the spine.
Also people forcing drugs on their pets are fucked.

I certainly wouldn't feed a cat salvia, but a raw leaf is unlikely to have an effect. That being said, one never knows, some species are intolerant of things that we are not - dogs and chocolate for example.
My beloved and weird cat Olivia (RIP after a long happy 19 years) loved to prune in the dope room. The best part is, she only liked to pull off leaves that started wilting, usually bottom story fan leaves that had yellowed and started curling. She was my dope-room buddy and helper, she loved it in there, in part because it was so warm I guess.

Oh man... a while back I got around an oz AK-47 and the whole thing had dog hair in it. Seemed like practically every bud. And it was almost amazing how thoroughly lodged into the buds some of those hairs were. Never seen anything like it. Pain in the ass to pick out.

My parrot will go and take bites out of my salvia plant. Every time I let her out, she will go to the plant and take a bite and chew on it, and then take another.
She discovered it on her own, I try and stop her each time because I don't want her putting holes in my salvia leaves. But it definitely effects her. She becomes space and looks around making noises of contentment and happiness and then snaps back after about 10 minutes.
She's even started to try and sneak over there. She'll pretend she's just playing and then go slowly over there and stop everytime I look.

That seems mean though. She seems to enjoy getting high. I just don't want to over do it!
Not mean at all. You don't even have o squeeze the scruff. All you need to do is lightly grab it.
Try it now, I swear the cat won't move
You are not a mother cat, and kittens only have that instinct for the first weeks/months of their life. The cat probably doesn't move because it is being suspended by it's skin, which is uncomfortable and dangerous to the spine.
Also people forcing drugs on their pets are fucked.
My mother's cat absolutely cannot tolerate getting a bath and my mom constantly gets scratched.... So I showed her how to grab the cat and suddenly it didn't even move the entire time.
Trust me on this one. I am a cat after all

I was told the same thing by a vet. It does not end when they become adult cats. I've seen it in action and it is magic. And only assholes dose their pets.
