Does anything surprise you anymore?

When it comes to humanity? I've been feeling like this a lot since I gave up all media. Maybe it's why I gave up media.
I suspect the kind of people drawn to this little meeting place of ours would not be, but thought I'd ask the question none the less!
If you've any specific examples of things that do, I'd love to hear them!!

The only things that surprise me anymore are small things sometimes. Seeing an 8 year old come to the library and check out multiple 500+ page books at a time.
A 3 year old who prefers vegetables over chocolate.
A 20 year old guy talking to the elderly just to hear their stories.
I'm not sure if there some depraved act I'd be surprised to hear anymore.

The only thing that surprises me is how stupid people are, and how hard they fight to maintain that status.

Mmmm, I've seen a man high on acid here jump onto a lady's BMW and attack it with a sword believing he was a high elf fighting Morgoth.... Just another day in Portland really.

I've experimented with this myself a good deal this year... I used to be a news junkie, had to know everything... But honestly it's way less stressful just being ignorant and living in a psychedelic cocoon of sorts . I'm sure there were some bombings and school shootings and celebrity scandals I could really give two fucks about . One of my major goals is to not know who played or won the Super Bowl, such brazen ignorance is no easy task (I usually lose, but I try my fucking damnedest and have succeeded some years). When I do, I silently pat myself on the back and say I won the Super Bowl. I still go about my readings learning about the things I'm interested in.

I think there is a difference between seeing things on tv and seeing them in real life. A few weeks ago I saw the aftermath of a fatal accident at the closest major intersection by my house while driving to work. Bodies under tarps on the pavement. Totally surprised me and reminded me of my mortality, especially while driving. Seeing shit on tv doesn't compare.

I was literally 3-5 seconds from certain death as a logging truck driver crossed the center line and there was guard rail to the right. The only consolation was that "it" would have been over in about another 3-5 seconds had this joker not heard my horn and finally veered back into his lane.

The news is just a reel of painful religion-inspired events these days. Amazing how regions of the planet actually go through that crap... meanwhile I'm drinkin' mah coffee on da porch, wondering what existence is, meals all in the fridge and pantry, sweet as car out front.

Not overly. Death, the final frontier?
