No they can't.
Just open the package carefully in your sab and then close and seal it up afterwards. I've removed petris in open air before placing them in my sab with out issue. Just apply a small amount of pressure on the top and bottom of the stack you pull out to keep them closed.

Good move on agar. I left a blank dish on the floor of my sab after a sesh, only realizing after the top came off the sab plus a minute or so. After I noticed I wrapped it in parafilm open air and 8 days later the plate is blank. Biggest part is making sure nothing moves over the open media, like fingers.

Pour the whole sleeve each time you open a new one. Its too much of a pain in the ass to only pour a few.
I wrap them with cling wrap... cut a couple inches off the roll. Saves on parafilm. But fresh ziplock bags are sterile and you can put them in stacks of 3-4 in a bag. Just keep them somewhere they wont get knocked around , keep the lids on. Then wrap them after innoculations.
If I run out of agar I will wrap the un poured dishes or store in ziplocks.
Store unused plates at room temp, that way you can see if theyre dirty vs keeping them in the fridge where the contams will stay dormant
