Ergot experience?

Briefly touched on Ergot as a hallucinogen in school. Does anyone here have experience? If so, please elaborate. We have a professor growing it for something, not quite sure yet, but struck me as interesting.

Ergot is a catch all term. Some ergots have the same chemical profile as morning glory seeds. And by the way, the important difference between morning glory seeds and ergot is that MG seeds don't contain significant quantities of the ergopeptine ergoline alkaloids. Morning glory seeds themselves contain ergoline alkaloids as a result of infection with ergot: http://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads/657613-Activity-of-Ergolines-in-Ergot?p=12857227&viewfull=1#post12857227

Thank you for the info. I believe I'll pass on the whole festering wound for a trip trade.
There was a suggestion that this was the origination of the Salem Witch hunts, and that the hallucinations off of a large bloom of ergot in the town's grain led to people perceived as the original witches...?
Any rate,

I do believe someone reported drinking claviceps paspali liquid culture broth and living to tell the tale. Think it was the Nook that I read that ....can't remember right now.
Not all ergot is deadly but leave ingestion to the experts.
Do you know what species your professor is growing? There are a lot of exotic ergot species out there with novel compounds. Just recently a couple years ago I realized c.paspali is abundant where I live and it had been around my whole life I just never noticed it.

Not sure of the variety, no. I'll keep an ear out though. Not trying to mess with it myself, was just curious if it was used under the table for anything. Seems to carry an awful lot of risk with it, but in the same respect, so does hunting wild mushrooms...

This is an age old recipe I wouldn't fuck with personally.
