My power's out

And I'm using the last of my phone battery to bitch about it. What should I do? Its storming outside and all my devices are dying. Its too dark to read and soon I won't be able to listen to music, wtf kind of things can you do to pass the time without power? And are there any safety precautions I can take besides buying ice and a cooler to keep my food from spoiling?
Man I was planning on starting my pf jars today

Light a candle, grab a blanket, do some day dreaming, or gather a friend. Grab a book!
Power outages are cool.

Yup, might as well get crackin on the beers in my fridge before they're too warm to enjoy. Might do a bit of exercise before my house gets too hot too, luckily my ac was cranked way the fuck down so it should stay cool for a bit.
I hate power outages mostly because I can't listen to music. Shit sucks, only person I have to talk to is my roommate who's being a temperamental bitch about the power being out
Thanks for the replies

masterbate into a potato, then take some aluminum foil and stick it into the goo, then take a nail and push it into potato, then wire it up to a light bulb and you and your little buddies will have light all night.
then in the morning, microwave it and eat breakfast

hook up some shake, magnet generators to your wrists and fuel the power into a series of car batteries. power them by furiously masturbating. the batteries power the computer that supplies your porn files, which inturn generate more faps = infinite energy

Yeah this isn't that bad at all. Last time my power was out was much worse, my girlfriend and I were fighting a little bit before hand and after the power went out our apartment got hot real quick (I think this was in June, in Florida keep in mind) and shit got tense. I'm just chillin by myself playing my acoustic guitar that is fucked up right now. Missing the 3rd string tuning peg

That's brutal, dude. Couldn't even imagine that shit happening to me back when I worked my 3rd shift job.
Well, my power's back on but my girlfriend got in an accident on the way home. She and everyone else involved is okay but it's still an extremely stressful situation. Can't catch a fuckin break tonight!

It blows my mind at how completely dependant some people are on electricity, fuel, running water, etc.

How did you do it?
I have hundreds of litres of pure drinking water, thousands of meals of freeze dried food, a full cord of firewood and numerous candles, batteries and tools etc.
But I am not even close to being off the grid. For one thing it's minus 30 Celsius and dark most of the year.
I need solar panels, and lots of other things to get there but it is my goal.

I can't deal with all that "stuff".
In situations, it's better for me to be mobile. When I'm at home and the power goes out, and it's -50C outside, I'm not going to just sit there and freeze to death waiting for someone else to save me. I'll find everything I need out there, I don't need to hoard it all in here.

I've no need for "first world luxuries"; it's just something the Zombies can take from you.

People who think they will be able to survive off the land without extensive supplies are delusional.
I have firearms and ammo for hunting and seeds for gardening and water filters too, but I have no illusions I will be as to survive off the land .
You need both the skills and the stockpile . Within a month of a catastrophe all the game will but hunted out and all the trees will be cut and burned and it will take months for your vegetable crops to grow .
You need extensive supplies and then hunt and fish and forage as much as you can but if your plan is to live off the land exclusively you will die.
There are millions of other people who will be trying to live off the land. The land can't provide for even a tiny fraction of the people who will be trying to hunt And forage.
I would rather be eating a hot freeze dried meal by the fire. I will hunt and garden too to make my supplies last longer but stockpile has to be the main tactic.
But you didn't answer my question- how did you manage to live off the land and be off the grid? What's the story? How did you survive , where and why?

Actually people do it here in Humboldt all the time. Doesn't get cold enough to kill someone. Unless they had no clothes I guess. . They live in the hills for months growing weed and don't , have shit. They are extremely / socially awkward most of the time and smell horrible.

Right but my point is in a major catastrophe suddenly it wouldn't be a few eccentric people living off the land it would be the general population trying to do it, and that will become impossible very quickly.
A few people can live off the land, a city of hundreds of thousands or millions can't.

Moonshoe your view is very much based on location. Where I live, my entire town could walk into the surrounding woods to live and I would be doubtful I would even come across 75% of them when out there. The wild acreage to population around here is maybe 1 person per 2 square miles at most.
Also hunting/foraging until your first crops come in and then becoming vegetarian and growing/foraging your food would probably be the most sustainable, you can then easily control your protein intake.

A few people can live off the land, a city of hundreds of thousands or millions can't.
Invent a catastrophic event, and I'll tell you how I'd deal with it.
How many people do you think can live off the land? You know of me, but don't even think I can do it, yet say the "general population" would? Okay.
People who can't figure out how to survive without help are weak. Sure, having a Red Lobster open 24-hours during an asteroid strike would be just lovely... but while you finished off your last can of gourmet beanie weenies last week, I just finished eating your dog. No one will make you another can of food, but I see another squirrel. Last squirrel alive? That's okay because I can eat pine trees. Too cold and out of wood? I can move someplace warm, or stuff newspapers and dryer lint in my clothes.
In my mind, most people will die in a serious situation. I will be here scavenging, yet surviving.

You misunderstand . You need a stockpile to hold you over while you forage and garden. A few unlucky hunting days and you are starving. It's not either or its both.
Who is better off a foraging gardener or a foraging gardener with a year's stockpile of food and supplies ?
It's a no brainer. If you are serious about survival you need to prep and prep hard. Relying on daily foraging alone is suicide .
If you doubt me go out and try to survive with nothing but what you forage for A month. You will soon realize it's not sustainable long term without some serious supplies.
