the appearance of separateness

On a certain level the appearance of our separation is an illusion. All the same, each organism is an individual, and that identity is not superfluous. In my opinion, we exist as a collective consciousness and an individual consciousness at the same time, not necessarily only one or the other.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

yes; first, good thread. thank you for posting it! secondly, i agree pretty much completely - i would add, that Watts' coinism 'organism-environment' makes a lot of sense, as a rather accurate description of what we are.. beautiful, too - i agree very much with this, and shared similar with a friend recently. stay true to identity - each of us have a unique personality and so forth.. and that doesn't have to be lost or given up, etc.. and to expand and explore it is healthful to remain true to one's identity- for instance, i will always be jacob, etc.. thank you for the thread, etc.. and friendship; be gentle with people. people need gentleness. namaste; peace and love, jake

Hmm..I have a thought about emptiness...Its as secluded as anything specifically is..in general we are subjective..with having thoughts about the objective..but we could never say that our subjectivity is wrong in any way..except as a weighing in on the objectives of ourselves..which is perfectly objective..to say anything that is understood to be frank..the necessary opinions of existence are not neutral..but mostly attempts to stay positive in world view and frame of mind..thus we are people..who can understand good and bad..and than from there reapply the lessons to be achieving in general..which is like saying that we are doing good..and feel good..

And the one and the collective are two interpenetrating, complementary aspects of a single whole, no? Each has its dynamics in every individual. So often we slip into the Aristotelian trap of saying that only one or the other is the true reality, but why not both?
