Tray teks?
    #22465524 - 11/02/15 06:58 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys I've pretty much mastered the PF tek but can't find any good info on making trays other than this method from 13 years ago.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/565456

I've searched and searched but can't seem to find a more updated version of a tray tek. I've asked a couple of times for someone to point me in the right direction but all I get is "The info is out there you just gotta know where to look."

I'm here just hoping someone can point me in the right direction, can anyone help a brother out? I've been wanting to start trays since February and gave up cause I know there has to be a better version than using PF cakes to make trays.

If anyone can post some links I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

-Mescalitoe

Looks about right....crumble to coir/verm in a tray, cover with foil (few small holes in it) and wait to colonize. Then fruit it however you want....it is pretty easy

No but I have the funds to buy that and any other supplies I need. I'm assuming it would be like making trays just a bit more substrate and materials? Correct me if I'm wrong.

If money ain't an issue I'd opt for an "all american" top of the line quality...if you don't want to spend that much (yet) grab a presto 23...

there was a grower here years ago who used to kill it with trays named magash.  do a search for some of his grows.  him and hippiechick have done a lot of rad tray grow in a martha.

any reason you're more inclined to do trays as opposed to mono's?

FYI, I got a Mirro 22qt for $48 shipped from Jet dot com. It was listed at$60 but there was a first time order 20% off code on the screen as I was ordering which took $12 off, Shipping on orders over $35 are free.

I still haven't built up the courage to even start these trays, let alone a mono. I'm afraid of failure, I guess I should try to get over my fears and just go for it.

Yeah,

you'll definitely fail at growing if you never try

I'd go for a mono. they're pretty simple and the teks have been used thousands of times.

it's not much harder than a pf tek as long as you follow the tek.
if you can grow clean spawn you can fruit a mono.

check out frank horrigans page of teks, or any of the AMU guys.

Trays are just growing in bulk. Its comprised of two parts, grain spawn and a pasturized bulk substrate.

Grain spawn is pretty easy to prepare its just imperative that it is clean, especiAlly since contams can be very difficult to detect in spawn. This is why most of us germinate spores on agar and keep transfering healthy myc away from contamination onto new plates until we are confident we have a culture clean enough for grain.. then we would use a wedge of that culture to inoculate the grains.

You will want to start by building and learning to use a Still Air Box (SAB), since that is what you will be using to do all your sterile work in.

Next you will want to follow an easy agar tek and get a clean culture going to use as innoculant.

At this point you will need to learn to prep grain and GE lids for the jars, sterilize and inoculate with agar wedges.

Once your jars are fully colonized you would need to pasturize a bulk substrate of your choice , and basically the two would be mixed together in a tray or tub and left to colonize and then be fruited.

Trays will need some sort of external fruiting chamber, SGFC if they are small enough, or a greenhouse. Dub tubs and monotubs are essentially trays with walls that act as thier own fruiting chamber. You would havr to choose which is right for you
