Hi,
just curious what kind of stuff this is ? It only seems to appear on the top in the rye jar. Doesnt seems to smell odd or something, the jar still smells like fresh shrooms.

Can I just scrap the top of the few jars and still use it ? Dont think so or ? Never would do with mold but I really dont know what this stuff is.

It's black/yellow mold Aspergillus.

What were you using for your GE filters? Was the mold only on the top of the jars? If yes, there is a good chance you had GE filter failure, which isn't a bad thing necessarily cause it's easy to fix for future grows. That said, sometimes mold will only sporulate on the top because that is where the most air is, but I don't feel that particular occurrence is common.

Well, if most is P. cubensis the yellow mold would need to be a pathogen for it to take hold, or at least opportunistic in combination with unfavorable growth conditions. I probably would have guessed Aspirgillus terreus as well, mainly due to the conidia. If not that, maybe dog vomit mold (Fuligo septica)? I don't think it would have that powdery look but the way to tell for sure is under a microscope. The conidial structures fan out lots of conidia vs. Fuglio which is a slime mold.
