The State of Music has never been better 5

We are living in the most interesting musical times and the most abundant times.
There is nothing in music you cannot try and will be seen as weird. People are now very accepting of the fact that music is about experimentation and finding new sounds. Remember when back in the day, some people were unsure if Ministry was EVEN MUSIC? Remember when people questioned whether rap was music or not? Those days are long gone.
Now, you can sound like a band form the 70's mixed in with elements of modern electronic. You can blend any two or three or four types of music. Everything old is new again. There is a whole genre based around sounding 80's. Some people make 90's sounding stuff on purpose. It is almost as if music is not limited to the time period it is made in any more.
When most people bitch about music being crap these days, they are REALLY just bitching about how HARD it is to find music they fall in love with. Abundance and a much cheaper entry level to making music has contributed to the enormous amount of music out there, which in turn translates to more hours searching for it.
I've always thought though, if we see a band or musical act on par with the influence of the Beatles, in won't happen until I'm a great-great-great Grandfather.

I agree.
It pains me to see people saying music is crap now just because they're too stupid to use the internet.

Here are roughly my current ratios for music searching:
My wife and I will go on new music hunts about 3 times a week and as a very rough estimate:
Out of 100 songs, we will LOVE 1 (like absolute classic, a song I may not get bored of until 2-20 years have gone by) About 10 we will really dig, not quite love, but think are awesome and the rest is a combo of we won't hate it but won't listen to it again and stuff that sucks.

To be fair, if you turned on the radio to listen to anything new, you'll find 100% crap. I don't think most people care enough about music to dig for it, unfortunately.

OP is backed 100%. So much crazy good music out there these days, makes me proud to be a music fan in this decade. Unfortunately it's kind of daunting as an aspiring musician as it seems like no matter how good your music is, it won't matter if you can't "break in" and get a solid amount of people sharing your music. It's easy to fade into obscurity among the masses of would-be musicians. That has always been the case, but the "market" becomes more and more flooded every day.

It's only hard to find music because it is so readily available and easy to put out these days. In the 70s unless you had a shit load of money you couldn't put your own music out.... Now everyone has a "record label" cause they can put the music out from home on their computer

And everybody can learn to play an instrument by watching youtube videos or visit webforums.
It's pretty rad.

How do y'all go about finding new music? My main way is through asking friends to throw some tunes on while we hang out. I agree that the music scene is great right now and im blessed to live in the music hub of Massachusetts. There are so many different sounds popping up and it's all so accepted its lovely.
Here's some twiddle =D

Why would anyone want to see a BISCUITS run? 2002 is long gone and barber is a fucking joke at best, but more often just an embarrassment. 9/24/09 was the last good biscuits show. They are done. It's funny to see people act like they are doing something special though. Calling brownie and barber musicians is really insulting to peopl around the world who actually learned to play their instrument. They are just a Cashgrab band at this point. The biscuits are like anal sex...they are painful and invasive, but if you get lubed up enough and make yourself their bitch maybe you can pretend it's not horrible

Bieber hasn't been rising anywhere in years. Last I heard about him he'd recently picked up an opiate habit and caught a DUI. I don't think Ludacris even makes music anymore. Just learned Luda's still in the game, somehow
I don't like Drake but he has a few good tracks (read: ones he doesn't rap on). Dude is just straight up a bad rapper and he doesn't even write his own verses.

I agree except the whole "if we see an act on par with the influence of the Beatles" First, your wording there makes it difficult to read and properly understand. Truly though, The Beatles weren't the end-all-be-all of music, Velvet Underground was doing great shit with sound too. Then you could argue that The Doors were even more influential prior to all that.
There are a few bands that still create new music which have the potential to be a catalyst for large genre and style movements. Ironically, Modest Mouse is amongst them. The Pixies come to mind as well, they'll be inspiring artists for decades to come.
Saying "oh no one will top the influence of The Beatles until I'm dead" is quite dense. You can't objectify music like that.
