I have all the agar setup, just still getting it dialed in. First round I got 0 growth for almost a month so I made it less stiff...little too soft and now going to try again but also was hoping to get a good G2G started to isolate from.

Don't think that's gunna happen bud. Keep at agar and you'll get it in no time though.

Don't know what recipe you are using but MEA and PDA are the easiest and most common. Those jars in the first post are straight mold. Don't worry though, happened to me(and everyone) as well.
Here is a valuable link on proper recipes. Agar recipe handook
For reference, its 10/10/500ml; that is, 10mg agar, 10mg LME, 500ml water, enough to pour 20- 100x15mm plates
But remember with agar, you want to PC for about 30-45 minutes, have a cap with a hole and an SFD stuffed in it. Pour when the temp is at 125-135. The longer you wait the less condensation. I waited till it was about 120 last time, and I got 0 condensation. Don't let your hand over the plate. Also, twist the bottle at the end of each pour, and you don't need to fill up the entire plate, just enough to cover the bottom.
If you have any more questions, :message: me
good luck!

I don't get how every question always leads back to agar. I mean I understand that agar is the shot, but not too long ago people successfully grew never doing agar. Now it seems every ones outlook is agar or fail.

Not the case really. It's more like if you fail or keep failing, try agar.

Not really agar or fail. Its just that agar makes it so you are 100% sure your not wasting your time. Ive only been cultivating for 4 months. Look at my sig, those tubs are because of agar.
I just got into agar 2 months ago, because everyone was saying the same thing lol, but now that I have started, its the best part about mycology.
People have always been doing agar, its just not getting to where everyone is able to do it.
As I said, you can grow successfully, and there are people who never touch agar and grow for years, but its always random. I was doing cakes and then had an entire batch get trich, I got pissed and said never again will I use MS syringes to inoculate, and got into agar immediately after that.
Havent looked back
btw, the other link is broken, this is the proper one

Agar simply can provide better consistency. This is obvious. But we all know it's not a necessity... plus, it's fun and saves product in the long run.
P.s. my post above with the pic was to show u that my ksss grow was also wispy looking, in hopes to provide u some comfort that yours was on a normal track (ur original concern). I have been isolating KSSS strains on agar for quite some time now and they all seem wispy and thinnish, compared to many others at least. Maybe the unluck of the draw with that syringe but in the future maybe it will be different. I shall keep trying

I'm useing a premix PDA from amazon with glad mini rounds following pastywhites no pour agar tek. I'm down for doing pour then PC but PCing the whole container seems more logical because everything gets sterilized. Also how are you guys reading the temp on the agar?

What are you useing to measure the temp and best place to get the Y-segment agar plates? Also I've been battling with bacteria more than mold, and from my few experiments with agar it seems difficult to spot. Amy tips?
