I was wondering if this growth looked normal. I have not seen what looks like knotting right off the bat. Also the (pregrowth?) Looks whispy and grey. I'm sure it's all fine, just checking.

I agree with flabber, that is definitely mold. If your techniques in the SAB were good, then your syringe is most likely the reason for the contam.

I mentioned KSSS earlier, I prep with a overnight soak, bring to a solid boil and aor dry, load jars PC in my AA921 for 2hrs (half gal jars). The areas the growth is appearing is where I injected the 2cc of MS.

You injected too much solution, which probably offset the moisture content of the grains, making them more susceptible to bacterial contams. Next time use between 0.5-1cc .

You might need to PC longer if using half gallon jars.

He could put the whole syringe in there and it wouldn't offset the moisture content enough to matter.

The growth is showing only where the injection happens. The other 6 half gallon jars that I haven't nocced up shows no growth.

Depends where he injected the solution. If it was directly in the center of the jar, the surrounding grains would absorb the excess moisture.
If he injected against the glass, you would have a bunch of wet grains stuck to the side of the glass. Over time, if there was bacteria present in the syringe, it could easily thrive at that location. And given the look of the jars, it looks like that was the case.

I'm not sure if excessive is the right word, but completely unnecessary. I have used as little as 0.5 ml per quart with great colonization times.

Also I had some B+ look the same way all the way up to 100% colonization, now looks cherry.
