im in canada and we don't use quarts to measure lol so I'm unfamiliar with how much one quart is
You'll use quarts to measure when that's the size jar you're using.

Bummer yeah, if you cant get coir I would just fruit as cakes.
You could defently use cakes to make more cakes, but there is a reason that brf cakes are that size/shape.

I found coir ! Finally... After I prepare the sub does it need to be pasteurized / sterilized?

i'm sure its OK. you wanna really cook your coir tho, might have lost a lot of temp without the proper lid but i'm sure you at least killed the possibly added trich (if there were any).

Also in that case I might jar the sub up and do an Extra sterilization steaming

You can do that too, coir works better when cooked really well. I've heard some cultivators say that mycelium colonizes over sterilized coir much better than any other method, so that's definitely something to keep in mind.

If you plan to PC your coir, they'll be fine in the jars for a few weeks or more, but it will probably dry up a lot. Remember, you want to make sure your substrate is at field capacity when mixing with your spawn, so its probably best to not let it get to that point. But, you could always rehydrate it.
Coir is very contam resistant, and 9/10 any contamination you see during the fruiting stage is likely attributed to dirty spawn jars, so make sure you have good sterile techniques in the SAB

All my spawn is 100% colonized and ready to fruit, so as long as coir is a pretty contam resistant I should be good! Everytime I've noc'd up jars I've had 100% success rate

personally i would properly pasteurize the substrate in jars/bags at 140-160 degrees, i know its common knowledge but watch the 'let's grow mushrooms' videos.

I agree, only if we're talking about a manure based substrate. But with coir, you can prep it any way you like, it's very contam resistant. Pasteurizing coir doesn't seem to allow the mycelium to digest the substrate fully IME, it's best to give it the heat treatment, via bucket tek or PC'd.

Its because boiling/PCing helps soften up the coir right?
