Does that imply that you're OK with the cow shit elprawn?

No, but I find that dogs seem to go just about anywhere that mushrooms grow. Not so much cows.

I guess they go there because their owners take them to the fields to avoid shit on their lovely lawn. Is the terrain of choice just cow fields...if not whats the other options?

PS gentlemen. Am I to take it that it's naughty to use words like "eat" "take" and "consume" on this site lest someone has their ear to the railway track?

Yes, you don't need to use all that SWIM nonsense here.

Right so someone who isn't me will need to take all this on board...so much to learn, so little time...

You can use any words to do with eating/taking/consuming as you like, SWIM tends to just annoy people. Welcome to the forum, note that liberty caps never grow directly from shit, they eat decaying grass roots. Hilly areas are good too, sheep/cow shit on it sometime within 6 years can help as well (I actually don't know if animal shit is 100% needed for libs to bloom).
Look for a slightly transparent cap, sliminess, nipples, and wiggly stems as beginner. It's a lot easier after your first find

Brilliant...thanks a lot. Look for a 6 foot five tall pensioner trawling the grassy swathes of south Essex, carrier bag in hand (a bag for life not a 5p one) and odds on it'll be me...happy days are ahead...if I survive

yep, welcome aboard.
just do post your finds here so an expert (not me, mind you) can verify what you've found until you feel comfortable with your knowledge, and then we'll just want you to keep posting for eye-candy's sake pretty much, and to help others on their educational journey, where ever that begins and ends. i'm barely a mile down that road myself, but as they say, its not always the destination...
and as on all forums, its just smart to use discretion.

Awesome that you're picking up the hobby later in life! Absolutely never too late to learn or try something new.
Hi Mr Piggy Just as a matter of interest...you don't happen to know the scientific name for the shrooms I found? Regards

As the first response said, they are Panaeolus papilionaceus.
Edible, but not active.
