Hi - am I on the right track?
    #22461099 - 11/01/15 09:03 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat:
Found these a few days ago in moist cow-pasture near to the river Thames in Essex, England..none were actually growing in cow pats although the pats were all around.. They seem to have the bell-shaped cap and nipple and long twisted stipes but I'm confused by the greyness of them and the darkness of the stipes

The closest I found here was Panaeolus papilionaceus although mine seemed fresher

I won't take any answer as encouragement to consume them as I've thrown them away anyway! But it will move me forward and I'll carefully study all the characteristics next time before moving forward.
regards

Panaeolus papilionaceus seems about right.

For the record, they're not worth consuming.

(lol) Well I'm a 71 yo newbie who wants to start gently and would be quite happy at first with altered perception and not too much going on. I read somewhere that tolerances adjust when using psilocybin and I would prefer to take things more cautiously than a strapping great 30 yo man would I suppose.

What Rural is trying to say is those mushrooms have absolutely zero psychedelic properties, so consuming more or less is a moot point.

Awesome that you're picking up the hobby later in life!  Absolutely never too late to learn or try something new.

Hi Mr Piggy
Right...I'll be guided by you then. I thought it was too good to be true that I'd strike lucky on my first "field trip" I'm an occasional lucid dreamer and I'm working towards awareness (which is a definite aid to LD) and I suppose I half-hoped it might boost my LD count...so back to the fields I go...

What is LD?  I should probably already know.

Oh I'm not that great of a guide, just a bumbling stumbler.  The people you want info from are the Trusted Identifiers.  They have a Trusted Identifier badge under their profile picture.  A couple of links to get you started:

Yep lucid dream...there are some LDX-people out there but most of us have to struggle to get lucid...but most of us should be able to manage a few.

You can set your own custom title in your profile.  I just call myself that because I seem to accident my way into good things in life.  If I trip and fall, I'll land right next to some actives

That's a great way to be accident prone.

nooo! now THAT is serendipity!

i don't live anywhere that bountiful.  but at least there's no fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, or swarms of locusts.  can't have everything i guess!

and to answer your question about me there Meth, (can i call you that?) i'm not too far behind ya.
i'm older than most of the peeps posting i suppose.  but that doesn't stop me.  the internet as a resource to identify things really has only gotten its legs since phones got cameras (in my opinion) but has really really taken off.  this site especially is a boon to anyone interested in this subject

and ya, i was just yankin' your chain about the newbie/test subject thing.  its really bad form to suggest that anyone actually eats something (worthless) and i was probably skimming the line there a bit just for a bit of bad humor.

It's not the best serendipity, last time I found a huge patch of mature cyans it was because I knelt down on the ground and put my hand in a really, REALLY gross stinky pile of dog crap.  It's been a while since I scalded off the first few pesky layers of skin on my hand scrubbing them in hot water, but I did it that day.

Hi Rural...or should I call you Anomaly (can we shorten the names and if so can we call you Pig MrPiggy...or is that also bad form?)  I take comfort in your relative age RA (is that also OK?...if so, call me M...and should we call you MP MrPiggy?) RA, now I've formally met you, you can pull my chain anytime you like.

Seriously though I have a bit of blood pressure and asthma but not really badly. However, I'll take the cautious route to shrooms. Ideally, as I said, I'd prefer to start with a dosage that would maybe help with LD (LD'ers are also partial to little helpers although it's often things like melatonin (hormone) and galantamine (alkaloid) neither of which are freely available in good ol' Nanny Britain either.

I love dogs but dog crap is a real burden when you're hunting for mushrooms. Especially if you get down on your hands and knees to photograph them.
