even if they are there you have to know exactly where to look down to the square foot or you'll never see them. Honestly I don't think they are fruiting around here. My cultivated beds aren't doing anything. The ovoids in central PA are different. They seem to fruit readily. Fall fruiting here is a fluke. Although the lack of posts this year seems to indicate the fall season is a total dud this year.

I went out today near Cincy at known spot from the Spring.  No luck. We had lots of rain,  and cold snap (39 tonight).  When it warms later in the week, they should pop here.
I am an optimist.

I did Have good luck finding cracked Polypores ( Phellinus rimosus) on locust trees. . I made a tea tonight and it was delicious. I could feel the effects on  my body. This mushroom is highly medicinal as are many of the Polypores. I've been getting into turkey tail Tea and Lenzites betulina.

I have wondered that myself.
I think scoop out channels of myc from the old beds and start new ones; leave rows of the old stuff and see how long it goes.
I think from reviewing other posts on cyans and azures, you don't get more than 2 or 3 years unless you add more chips.
You are two years ahead of me, so keep me posted on your experiments.

From what I have seen of Ovoids here in the PNW they are voracious and will devour wood quickly.  I saw one patch go from gigantic to almost nonexistent in one year.

Any of you read Mycelium Running?  In the "cultivation" section they showed how you could scar logs that were 5-8" in diameter, lay them in a raft on the ground, add spawn and cover the whole mess with woodchips.  I bet that would produce some bigguns for a decade or so.

I think some people mined it, actually I'm sure that a couple people did at least mine some, and I know a lot of the neighbors were pissed and on high alert about all the traffic that patch got.  My friend had some lady come up and harass him while he was harvesting.  They might have asked the city to remove some woodchips.  I've seen patches back east that fruited way more than that patch and they didn't disappear like that.  It's straight up mud right now.  Wood doesn't evaporate.

I agree. My cultivated patches barely fruited this year because I didn't add enough new wood. They will easily devour 2 inches of mulch. A spot that probably had 100,000 fruits two years ago, had maybe 5,000 last year and barely anything this year.

I think we have our answer:
Add 2 inches of chips every year, in the spring, after the last fruiting of the spring.
Do you think the chips should be mixed in with the bed or just applied on top of the bed?

Mix the mulch with a lot of grass clippings. Ovoids Myc loves grass clippings. This is one week of growth.

I have yet to find a full proof thread on transferring Ovoid mycelium to a garden pot or how to seed new locations? I do not understand this process. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you just dig up some mycelium and fill a pot with bark and grass clippings? Or put too far gone mushrooms and stem butts in what? A wet cardboard box?

This is seriously by far the most valuable information concerning Ovoids any one could share. If everyone who was picking Ovoids knew how to seed new locations... man, the East coast and Ohio would be the new mushroom capital.

I've just had the idea for three years now to seed the town mulch pile.. (really just a pile of dead leaves and wood) somehow, then every single person in town will have ovoid mycelium in their yards.:mushroom2::rasta:

It's easy. Just bury stem butts in mulch. Or grab some colonized mulch or wood from a good spot. I've been taking chips from the park where their huge mulch piles flood and wash down into the woods - thousands of square feet of completely colonized wood chips for the taking.

I had been seeding those mulch piles I just mentioned for years, so it's possible that I made this happen:

BTW, ovoids aren't going to fruit from mulch piles themselves. I've never seen fruits growing from any part of a pile that is more than a few inches above the ground level.

I kept a close eye on that patch and a couple of others in town.  Some mining did occur, but those chips mostly got ate up by the myc.  The city regularly turns the chips into the soil there to help improve the tilth.

I also talk to the park workers some times to try and figure out what is happening in the plots.  They don't remove chips from the beds, just add more.  Some of that area got turned and the chips moved around because they were working on the irrigation system.
