dont tell him about your psychosis
Back when I was doing a lot of drugs I manipulated doctors into giving me what I wanted. I still kinda feel bad about it since they seemed to genuinely care. Anyways I quit the drugs a few years went by and I wanted to get back on add meds. I found a new doctor, was honest about my history and intentions, and was in return treated like junky scum.

Yeah it's best not to tell doctors you have a history of abuse. They'll look down on you so fucking hard.
I'm trying to get my add meds back online so to speak as of recent. My first psych took me off them because I was running out to quickly and obviously abusing them.
Then a few months later found a new doc, but only got one script with him because I wasn't sure if he was going to ask my other Doctor why he dropped me as a patient???
Anyways I actually fucking need the stuff to accomplish anything, I was just more interested in having fun at the time, but now my future depends on me being able to sit down and focus for more than 30 minutes

Doctor: "well you certainly seem to be exhibiting some drug seeking behavior and I'm going to suggest drug treatment as opposed to treatment with drugs"

If I have an infected cut and go to the doctor wanting antibiotics its perfectly ok and that is drug seeking behavior. However when you want a drug that can be abused, it's not okay even if you don't intend to abuse it. It's pretty fucking dumb

I've found that if they see your condition without medication is actually making your life shit, they're more inclined to give you what you want.

It's more like you don't have an infected cut and you go to the doctor wanting antibiotics.

You're seeking drugs whether you have a cut or not.

Seeking the appropriate drugs is alright.
After my surgery I asked for more Vicodin and got them no problem.

Right, but all of that is based on the judgement call of a doctor. They A- saw a legitimate need, and B- were not suspicious of abuse.
There are most definitely cases where a legitimate need is present, but the doc still isn't comfortable scripting the med, either because they don't trust the person's intentions, or their history. Some junkies have even been known to purposely injure themselves for pain meds. And keep in mind that junkies become ill and injured just like everyone else. I have some experience with that, and I can tell you for a fact that if you have a known history, and a legitimate need for pain meds, some docs will give them to you, and some will not. So it depends not only on the situation and the patient, but the doctor as well.

There really is no right answer. Doctors are all different. Some will prescribe you something just because you tell them you were on it before and it helped or that you have friends/family who are on it and they recommended it, and others have things against certain drugs and won't prescribe them for any reason.
IMO the best thing to do is make them think it's their idea. Might take several doctor trips (and obviously more than just a day) to finally get the script you want, but it's the most fool proof method IMO. Generally it works by discussing your symptoms, and they'll prescribe something for it, if you get lucky, it'll be the one you want. If not, you have to "use it" for awhile (you can maybe get away with one or two that just "weren't right" right off the bat) and you have to keep giving him a reason to try something else. Never try to "steer them" into suggesting that drug. Don't use the same reason why one med won't work or you can't do it. Look up the symptoms, read reports on other people with that symptom so it's consistent when he asks you to elaborate. Just repeat.
Usually for this to work at all though, you have to act completely ignorant. If you go in there talking about stuff like you fully understand what's going on, it kinda tips them off.
Of course the other alternative is just keep going to doctor after doctor, telling him your symptoms and why you need it, and eventually one just won't really give a shit as long as he's getting paid. That could be much more expensive in the long run though.
