Strain Isolation Pros and Cons

I was wondering why strain isolation is a good thing. My friend grows multi spore and his cubes are actually really good 4 grams had me gone. I was curious why you more experienced growers choice to take the time to isolate a single culture. What are the pros and cons of isolating a single spore.
Also how do you know which piece of agar is best? I may be growing soon and on my last trip I kept thinking to myself that growing was an art I should take pride in my work and do everything as good as I can. But im still confused on how you know which mycelium is good mycelium or why one strain is so much better than multiple.

If you find an awesome isolate you can keep growing it over and over rather than roll the dice on multispore which means something different every time. Your friends next batch might not be as good. The con is you need to make a bunch of isolates and test all of them to find the good ones.

And always transfer from the very egde of the mycelial growth on your agar plates to avoid picking up any bacteria that the mycelium may have colonized over.

Isolation gives you predictable results if all other factors are the same. More uniform flushes, faster growth (if faster growing mycelium were isolated) ect. Multispore works fine but results are not predictable.

True my friend may help me set up a monotub of my own he said the isolation was a wate of time because his spores have good genetics. Idk though I may try and isolation and see what difference it does.

yeah it doesnt work like that, he cant decide which 2 spores will mate when there's billions of them on one print.

1 gram of my mushrooms will have you gone. 4 grams will make you not want to trip for a long time

this can be fairly true to a point, some strains variety's are stabilized really well but still a roll of the dice

Don't you grow multispore exclusively?
I got knocked down by an isolate/duelculture recently. Took 3g at a concert like w/e, I'm gonna relax and enjoy. Took me to a fractal reality hell where I had no idea what was happening and time didn't seem to pass. So I'm definitely a believer in genetic potency at this point. Grow was WBS or rice on coir n gypsum in an MSG.
IMO though, unless you're willing to invest a good amount of time and experimentation into cloning and isolating, it's unlikely you'll see results that differ that greatly from MS with a few casual attempts.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I isolate to a degree. I just don't take it to an extreme. And i only run clones if I'm trying to do something obnoxious like grow a pound with less than 50 mushrooms.

I was more than gone but I can handle it. I was sitting in my room seeing patterns emerge from thin air. I saw my hand split into two hands with multiple fingers. At one point I was 100% sure I would never come back. That's what I mean by gone if you have mushrooms that do that at one gram you got to teach me.

I love how everybody glossed over your comment about a lb in 50 shrooms, that is what stuck out to me in this conversation. Please tell me you've done this or something similar and have pictures cataloging it? I would love to see that.

I did do it. I don't remember the numbers. I feel like it was 42 mushrooms in that pound. I did it just for fun. It was when i ran the boner clone, which i just so happened to put on grain a week ago and g2g'd today. So lucky you, as you'll get to see round two. Look up my main threads and find "IT is coming" and click on the link i posted there and also look up my thread called "big boys"
