ID Request
    #22456699 - 10/31/15 07:32 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Species #1
Habitat: grass underneath some trees

Gills: yellowish/orange

Stem: yellow

Cap: yellowish/orange

Bruising:brownish/black

General location: Virginia tidewater area

There is only one specie of mushroom in all of these pictures. I would have numbered them but I am not at home atm. If anyone can help me out it'd be greatly appreciated.

They look like Gymnopilus Junonius, Wait for TI. Smell should be sweet and fragrant, taste is bitter.

they do look like gyms i find growing from roots, and around here they aren't so bitter (and hence maybe not junonius) but the smell is unmistakably pungent and fills the room, so when you do get home, give a sniff.
and maybe cut one in half and post it

and i woulda picked those babies.  no bugs yet, bigger than buttons, just about to pop the veil. best kind imo

as usual, wait for a TI to confirm if you intend to consume them

well, considering it was Halloween, and it fell on the weekend, i think just waiting until they're less hung over and or got some sleep will probably do it.

you could refrigerate overnight and then dry them (cracker dry as they say) or just start drying them now i 'spose

or.... do a lemon-tek tea n freeze it, which from what i've read (and believe although i've never tried it) is one of the better ways to handle gyms for later use

btw, don't go crazy on the volume of water, and don't freeze in glass.

or, you can just wait - they seem to hold up pretty well and don't look buggy.  if you see some maggot holes you might want to start dehydrating pronto so they bail and don't reduce them to mush.
