Would probably be best to make a couple jars and spawn them to the compost.

This, it would probably be a waste of spores otherwise. Spores are best for long term storage of a stabilized variety, or agar work. Throw a few jars that look iffy in there and only fruit the very best looking inside.

0-1% youll see shrooms in there, the higher it becomes if you have some cellulose source for them to eat up.
i wanna bum around like that as well but there are lots of ways to up your probability.

I tried that once, and it was a no-go. I even tried crumbling a cake into it. There's just too many bugs and competitive organism in there. You can pasteurize the composted material you pull from the bottom of the bin and use that for a bulk grow, or so I hear.

exactly as he said but if you really want to give it a shot try to spawn and put the cakes in one big loaf for best results

i agree, ud have better luck with spawn>substrate instead of spores.
even then, it all depends on how u make ur compost, ur C:N ratio, how often are u turning the pile, how mature is the compost, etc. composting is a science unto itself
