ID Help Please PNW
    #22454492 - 10/30/15 05:17 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I was walking around today and I saw a ton of these guys in a mulch bed. They look suspiciously like P. Cyanescens but I am unsure if they actually are because so many mushrooms look just like them. There will be a spore print incoming.

Habitat: mulch bed
Cap: chestnut color with spots of light brown around perimeter
Bruising: unsure if there is any
Stem: mostly white, darker around base
Spores: a ton were coming off when I touched the gills and they look brown

Some kind of agrocybe, maybe?

cyans are a darker orangish brown. the stems are always pure white, without any hints of tan or brown. And they will always bruise blue; you can check easily by clipping a bit of stem off; waiting 10 minutes; and seeing if it goes almost black with blue bruising.

they do look similar though!

I am thinking Psathyrella. Maybe the gills are a little light, though.

Compare with Kuehneromyces lignicola

Got it. In the future I will rule out all mushrooms that don't have completely white stems when looking for p. cyanescens. Thanks for the advice. I just started trying to do this hunting thing and have yet to have any luck.

Thanks for the help everyone in IDing these guys. It looks like they are very similar to the Kuehneromyces lignicola. That is one less mushroom that will confuse me!
