Storing gasket marker

Hi all been a while
I am in the process of making some jar lids. In the past I had been using silicone to stick my SFDs and SHPs onto my lids. It worked pretty good but it does not last long and looses it's grip after a couple of PC cycles.
I switched to RTV and got the red gasket marker from out-grow.
I had a problem when storing silicone and it kept drying so the nozzles and eventually the nozzle of the tube would become blocked from hardened silicone.
Does anyone know a good storing method for silicone and RTV that would prevent it from hardening over time or at least make it last longer?

I just cut the tip off further down when that happens. I store with a nail in it and thats worked pretty well.

Ive been using a circle of SFD and using regular silicone to hold it to the top of the lid. Are you putting yours on top or bottom? I found if you kind of rough up the plastic with sandpaper the silicone holds better
It hasn't given me a problem and I sterilize at 28PSI
But I just cap the tube and if it hardens in the tip I unplug it with a nail or slice a bit off the tip. You can also plug it with a nail so all you need to do is pull the nail out when you use it and it will be unplugged

I use tin lids of jam/honey jars so the lids are metal. I used them in both situations, top and bottom. After a couple of cycles they just come off. Maybe it's the type of silicone I am using as well. I use the aquarium stuff, which my suspicion is just regular old silicone.
Where do I put the nail? In the long nose nozzle or the nozzle of the RTV tube?

Maybe you should try the one piece plastic lids then man, theyre super convenient to use
I plug the nail into the tip where the silicone comes out, like you would do for a tube of caulk

Interesting, how does the hissing/rattling noise stop at that high of a pressure. I would think it would be the opposite effect, as massive amounts of steam are trying to escape from the valve.

I need a PC that can reach those levels first bro! I'm guessing this pretty soon will become the norm?

Make sure the cap is clean, a small nail works good for scraping it out. Also clean all the threads of the nozzle. Roll the bottom of the tube up like you do with toothpaste to keep air out of the silicone. If your going to store it for a period of time squeeze the tube so a bit of silicone comes out of the top and screw the cap on tight. Silicone does have a shelf life, even more so after it is open.

Interesting, how does the hissing/rattling noise stop at that high of a pressure. I would think it would be the opposite effect, as massive amounts of steam are trying to escape from the valve.
You basically order replacement stop cock for the AA s terilizers and switch out the black rubber plug for the red high pressure one. Other than those parts the AA s terilizers and pressure cookers are basically the same.
See the stopcock? That goes where the jiggle weight used to be. You turn the switch up u ntill it starts to steam for a few min... normally you'd put the jiggle weight on but now you just flip the switch valve down and it starts building pressure. When it gets to the PSI you want you just adjust the heat to hold it there.
After it cools it forms a vacuum inside until you pull the valve switch back up to release it. Unlike a pressure cooker the inside will stay sterile u ntill you release the vacuum and open it. So if like you use spawn bags you no longer need to use a tyvek insert you can just release the vacuum in front of a flow hood and take your saddle bags out there

I think it will definitely become very popular yea. A lot of people already have AA sterilizers but most people buy pressure cookers because 15PSI is definitely good enough for this hobby and the pressure cookers are much cheaper.
But since it has been shown you can safely switch the parts out to turn a PC intk a sterilizer for under 30$, why not right? You get all the benefits of a sterilizer. And you can always switch the parts back out to have your pressure cooker back to normal.

You can always just leave the unmodified lids slightly loose during the PC run and twist them shut one it finishes up. I've done that with PP5's and a few random jars I have one-piece lids for, as well as oster blender blades.
Just loosen it up a little bit if your colonization is running long to allow for GE if needed.
As for the silicon, all you can do is use it like every month to try to keep it flowing, cut back the tip as needed to pull out the plugs of silicon. RR said RTV was worse than standard silicon. I've used the clear rutland RTV, no complaints. I suppose if I eventually can't get anything out of the nozzle, I'll just saw the tube open, dump it in a heavy duty ziplock, and get as much of the air out as possible. Maybe slice off a corner to get it out, then clip the coner shut when done.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...
