Ridiculous spore print question/problem
    #22451759 - 10/29/15 11:32 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys been hunting for 3 years now (still a greenhorn I know) and so far I have had great luck thanks to you guys and putting in some hard hours searching. Anyways, I've been interesting in cultivation....

I've done spore prints on various forms of paper and cardstock, envelopes and the like and I never really have a problem. I usually get a good spore print, however when I try on reynolds wrap I see no spores at all even when I wait 24 hours with mature cap specimens...

I'm I just not seeing the spores or am I crazy here? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm at a loss.

Spores can be hard to see on foil.  I hope that's what you meant by reynolds wrap.

What species are you printing?

i like to print on tinfoil.
the flatness of the spore mass really stands out against
the shiny of the tinfoil.

in the past, you were printing on surfaces that aid in the dehydration of the cap, which helps release the spores. paper, cardboard, etc all draw moisture out of the cap.

in my experience, a cap place in a sealed container to print does so very poorly. you didn't mention it, but I'd venture to guess your prints on foil were in a mostly sealed container?

to make my prints, I simply put a tupperware container over the cap and foil and place a folded up paper towel under one corner of the tupperware. I then leave all of that inside my still air box and plug the armholes with polyfill.

Dude thank you so much, I think you nailed it. Everyone else I talked to had no idea what was going on.

I was just putting foil down and a glass cup over it. No moisture was escaping.
