Dried Sclerotia - Why do they degrade?
    #22451496 - 10/29/15 10:00 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey there,

My lady friend had some P. Galindoi stones.  About 2 months ago I was thankfully gifted about 6 grams fresh and they worked great.  Put me at a comfortable medium level trip (very mild visuals and borderline insanity).  Since then she has given me some to try that she had dried.  The ones that she "dehydrated" (whether in an oven or dehydrator I am not sure) barely worked.  I experienced very threshhold effects off of 4 g AFTER 3 hours of ingestion and smoking significant amounts of bud.  I told her they were not good; so, what do you know, she gave me 3.5g of another batch that she said were fan dried and desiccated.  Once again, very threshhold effects (if you want to call it that) that did not even compare to the fresh batch.

By my calculations:

6g wet = ~2g dry
3.5g dry = ~10.5g wet

So....I was expecting a better experience dried after using the sites dosage calculator.

My questions are why are these species ineffective when dried?  Has anyone had good experiences on dried P. Galindoi?

NOTE:  I have read a BUNCH of posts on this matter and come across very little evidence or controlled studies.  Some say these species dry just fine while some do not.  i have read of personal experiences that were positive eating upwards of 12grams dried which still indicates substantial potency loss.  I know it could be genetics but do not think this is the issue at hand for multiple reasons.

The main thing that is bugging me is why are cubes, with the same active components, effective when dried and Galindoi rendered nearly useless?  What factors could cause this (assuming the fan/desiccant dried batch was dried appropriately)?

ANY SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

personal experience and/or opinion is welcome as well.

I've never dried them, so I really dont know. I used to just grind them up and put them in chocolates and store in the fridge. I tended to harvest fresh from the jars on demand.

Is it possible they didnt loose as much water weight as you thought?

They shrunk down to 1/3rd of the wet weight as she expected

Method of drying? The longer it takes to dry, the more the actives oxidize. Stones are pretty thick too.. They should theoretically take longer to dry.

Even cubes if not dried properly will lose potency.

I think 3.5 grams dried cubes is similar to ~17-20 grams of wet stones. I have never dried mine
